Chapter 1208
Having gotten his agreement, Claire gathered all the necessary legal documents and headed straight for the hospital.
When she walked into the room, a nurse was hooking up a fresh IV bag for Felix.
In just two days, he looked visibly thinner, his complexion pale and drawn.
Noticing a family member had arrived, the nurse gave a quick update. “He has five bags of fluids to get through today. This is only the first one, and we have to run it slowly.”
Claire frowned.
If they had to wait for five IV bags to finish, the clerk’s office would be closed by the time they got there.
She turned to the nurse. “Given his condition, can he leave the hospital for a couple of hours?”
The attending doctor, who had just stepped into the room, caught the question and immediately unleashed his fury.
“Leave? Absolutely not! Hasn’t he tortured himself enough over the last two days? I’ve been a doctor for decades, and I’ve never seen a patient with such a blatant disregard for his own life! He just had major surgery, and he went digging through a dumpster! It caused a severe infection and a massive fever. We finally got his temperature down, and now he wants to go out again?”
“Does he have a death wish?”
The doctor was an older man with a notoriously cranky disposition and a sharp tongue.
But since he was prioritizing his patient’s health, Claire didn’t dare argue.
She simply lowered her head and took the scolding.
Internally, however, she was bewildered.
Why on earth was Felix digging through the trash?
Once the doctor stormed out, Claire looked at Felix. “It seems today doesn’t work for you.”
“I’m sorry,” he said, his tone genuinely apologetic.
You can’t kick a man when he’s down.
Especially since he was injured, she couldn’t exactly drag him out of bed.
Her expression softened slightly. “It’s fine. We still have a couple of weeks before the deadline. We have time.”
Felix turned his head to study her perfectly calm face. A bitter, self-deprecating smile pulled at his lips. “It’s obvious you can’t wait to end this.”
“Yes,” Claire answered firmly, meeting his gaze without a trace of hesitation.
She was completely transparent.
She added, “This should have ended a long time ago.”
Felix’s hands curled into tight fists.
The movement disturbed his IV needle, and a thin line of blood backed up into the tube.
But he completely ignored it.
“If this is because of Madeline…”
Claire cut him off before he could finish. “Our issues go far beyond her. She’s just one piece of the puzzle.”
Felix remained silent for a moment
before pushing forward. “Whether
you believe it or not, I need to explain. There is absolutely nothing romantic between her and me.”
Claire gave him a look that clearly said she didn’t buy a word of it.
But Felix was adamant. “I know I failed to set proper boundaries with her, and know that humiliated you. was wrong and I I
ant to apologize for that.”

“I came here to discuss the divorce.”
Her implication was clear: she didn’t want to hear anything else.
She didn’t have the time or the patience for it.
They were getting divorced; what was the point of digging up the past?
It was a waste of breath.
“I know,” Felix pressed on, strangely desperate to keep talking.
“The only reason I took such special care of Madeline… was because of her eyes,” Felix confessed, regardless of whether Claire wanted to hear it or not.
He had kept this buried inside for so long that he felt he might suffocate if he didn’t finally let it out.
“You know about my ex-girlfriend. Melanie.”
As he spoke her name, a profound, undeniable grief flashed in his eyes.
Even Claire paused.
Her fingers instinctively curled inward.
She had never met Melanie.
But she knew that on the exact day she and Felix had tied the knot, Melanie had tragically ended her own life.
