Chapter 1246
[ 631 words ]
The heiress instantly turned into a country bumpkin, and her fiancé had to travel thousands of miles to find her.
He probably even suspected she had kidnapped the heiress to an impoverished mountain village, forcing her to marry and have kids.
Claire couldn’t stop laughing at her own wild imagination.
Zara turned her persuasion to Skylar. “Skye, are you really not coming to my engagement party?”
Skylar shook her head. “I already bought my ticket. It was so hard to snag. If I don’t go back, what happens to it?”
“If you go back after the holidays, won’t tickets be even harder to get?”
Zara thought this was an easy fix. “That’s simple! I’ll buy you a plane ticket.”
Train tickets were indeed hard to grab, but booking a flight was much easier. The wealthy heiress had money and wasn’t afraid to spend it.
Skylar hesitated. “But the dorms close for the break. I wouldn’t have anywhere to stay.”
Zara patted her chest generously. “What are you worried about? You can stay at my place!”
“I actually told Lex she could stay with me, but she didn’t want to.”
The Zeller estate had plenty of spare bedrooms and staff, so hosting an extra person was no trouble at all.
But Lex was different; she was reserved and felt awkward about imposing.
Besides, staying in such an upscale neighborhood would make her daily commute to work incredibly inconvenient.
When Zara first made the offer, Lex had rejected it without a second thought.
She simply wasn’t used to it; it felt like Cinderella stepping into a castle.
Lex didn’t want to admit she felt inferior, but she truly did.
Claire had originally considered offering Lex a spot at her place. But seeing her turn down Zara, and knowing Lex had already arranged to share an apartment with a senior student, she stayed quiet.
Her place wasn’t exactly convenient anyway, especially with patients like Melanie occasionally dropping by.
“Claire, just promise me you’ll come. Aren’t you working on some experiment lately?”
“Are you sure you can finish it before the holidays?”
“If you go back to your hometown now, it’ll delay your progress.”
“Doesn’t your experiment require someone with a broken leg?”
“If push comes to shove, I’ll break Silas’s legs for you. How does that sound?”
Zara pleaded and batted her eyelashes, pulling out all the stops.
She even sold out Silas without hesitation.
Claire hadn’t agreed yet, while across town, Silas sneezed violently,

“There’s no need to be that ruthless…”
Claire hadn’t even thought about her experiment until now.
Thanks to Zara’s reminder, she realized there was no way she could head home before the holidays.
She’d be lucky if she made it back before New Year’s Eve.
Fine, she had no choice but to attend Zara’s engagement party.

The dorms allowed students to stay until a few days before the holiday break.
Only needing to crash at Zara’s place for a short time was acceptable to Skylar.
Zara was thrilled.
She didn’t have many close friends, so her guest list for the engagement party was quite small.
It would be incredibly awkward if she didn’t invite anyone of her own.
Having her roommates there would give her some solid moral support.
Otherwise, if she invited those fake socialite friends, who knew what kind of drama they would stir up.
The engagement was meant to be low-key, and she wanted to keep it that way.
Just in case Reid eventually met a girl he truly loved.
If she needed to let him go, having a widely publicized engagement would only make things humiliating.
Reid had no idea what Zara was thinking, he had spent the last few days diligently preparing for

Zara had been dragged around to try on countless gowns and multiple engagement
rings.
She found it totally baffling, feeling like Reid was taking this way more seriously than she was.
