Chapter 1343
[ 569 words ]
“York certainly has a sweet temper. He didn’t make a single sound while his ex- fiancée leeched off him.”
Mrs. James remarked pointedly.
Olga’s smile instantly vanished.
She looked at York, silently begging him to defend himself, only to realize he was staring blankly out the window.
“York, what are you looking at?”
Following York’s gaze, Mrs. James spotted Claire outside!
Claire had been dining with Pandora in a separate private room and had simply stepped out to take a call.
Before she could even finish her conversation, she noticed her former fiancé’s family dining with Larkin’s family.
Word in the social circles was that Larkin was newly wealthy-a man who had struck it rich entirely on a lucky break.
Claire had met Tabitha before. She was a bit curvier, but she was genuinely pretty. Her facial features were quite striking.
If she and York had kids, they would undoubtedly inherit some excellent genes.
“Why is she here? What does she want?”
Olga’s expression turned intensely defensive.
She already had Cindy clinging to her son; was Claire trying to make a comeback too?
The Byron family hadn’t filed for bankruptcy, but they had suffered enough because of Claire’s former family.
Why wouldn’t these women just leave them alone?
“Olga, she’s just passing by.”
York sighed.
His mother gave him far too much credit.
Cindy only clung to him because she didn’t have any better options.
Claire was an entirely different story.
As the owner of Hearth & Kettle a property worth millions of dollars-she was entirely out of a normal guy’s league.
York kept to himself the fact that Claire was deeply involved with Dane. Given their obvious chemistry, they were likely already together.
Why would Claire ever chase after him when she had a man like Dane?
His mother was being completely delusional.
“You say she’s passing by, but what if…” Olga had actually adored Claire in the past.

“Olga!” York snapped, cutting her off.
He and Claire simply weren’t meant to be, and after breaking the engagement, he
had admittedly leaned closer to Cindy.
But now, Claire was completely untouchable.
Her new fiancé was Dane, the CEO of Vertex International.
Compared to York, Dane was superior in every conceivable way.
It stung his ego, but York knew Claire would never settle for her ex when she had Dane.
“Are you talking about Claire, York’s first fiancée?” Tabitha asked, having overheard their whispering.
She peered curiously out the window.
She had crossed paths with Claire before. The woman was so incredibly stunning that Tabitha had felt immediately self conscious standing next to her.
Despite that, she held no resentment toward Claire.
“Ahem…” Olga suddenly realized her slip-up.
“Tabitha, please don’t misunderstand. York and Claire cut ties a long time ago.”
“I just saw her out there and spoke without thinking.”
“York never even liked her.”
Tabitha offered a polite smile but stayed silent.
Was it really York who hadn’t liked Claire?
Rumor had it that back when they were engaged, Claire was the one giving York the cold shoulder.
Since York was her designated fiancé, Larkin had run a thorough background check. They had entire files detailing every aspect of York’s life.
Claire, being his first fiancée, had been a major focus of their investigation.
The report made it glaringly obvious that Claire had never been romantically interested in York.
That was why ending their engagement had been such a seamless process.
