Chapter 1354
[ 634 words ]
Combined with her sweet voice, she was entirely confident she could wrap Claire’s cousin around her little finger.
Dewitt glanced at her. “Sorry, I’ve been working out of town for a while. I don’t know my way around Apex either.”
“And I know absolutely nothing about herbal medicine. You’re asking the wrong guy.”
The smile froze on Melanie’s face.
It was the first time she had encountered a man so completely oblivious to her charm.
“You’re still a local,” she pressed. “You must know more than a foreigner like me…”
Before she could finish, Dewitt cut her off. “Then Claire knows it better. You should be asking her.”
Melanie looked slightly embarrassed. “I wanted to invite Claire, but she just finished examining my professor and hasn’t even had a moment to catch her breath.”
“Then just wait a minute before you go,” Dewitt said, shooting a look at his cousin.
Claire spoke up smoothly. “I don’t mind. We can head out to get the prescription right now.”
Melanie’s face lit up with joy. “Really? Thank you so much, Claire.”
Honestly, she would have preferred to call her by her nickname, but Claire had already made it clear they weren’t that close.
Melanie felt a pang of resentment but swallowed it down.
She suspected Claire’s coldness had everything to do with her being from Sundara.
It was unavoidable-Solenians were just like that, passing down their historical grudges to the next generation.
Supposedly, Solenia’s education system still hammered those old wars into students’ heads through their history books.
It was nothing like her country, where that entire chapter was conveniently missing from the curriculum.
If Claire knew what Melanie was thinking, she would have shot back: Of course you don’t have that chapter.
Because your country twisted the facts and watered down its war crimes!
Dewitt couldn’t understand it. If their grandmother knew, would she really approve of Claire treating someone from Sundara?
Now she had to tag along to the pharmacy and teach this woman how to brew the medicine too.
And he wasn’t blind-he had noticed the woman trying to turn on the charm just moments ago.
Too bad Dewitt was a fiercely patriotic man raised with good, solid values, utterly immune to the sugar-coated bullets of beautiful foreigners.
Any foreign country was a hard no, but Sundara? Absolutely out of the question.
When Claire agreed to go with Melanie, Dewitt stood up to follow.

Dewitt’s expression was icy. “I’m not going for you. I’m going for my sister.”
Melanie’s smile shattered once again.

He was hands down the most difficult man she had ever tried to talk to.
Under normal circumstances, she might have seen him as a fun challenge to conquer.
But right now, she had far more pressing matters to attend to and had zero intention of starting something with Dewitt. .net
“My mistake,” Melanie said smoothly. “I see you’re just looking out for Claire.”
“You two really have a wonderful bond.”
She plastered on an envious look.
Whether she actually meant it was anyone’s guess.
Claire and Dewitt led Melanie out, but they didn’t head straight to a regular pharmacy.
“If·
f you want the absolute best medicinal herbs, you have to go to the hospital.”
“But to get a prescription filled there, you actually have to register and be seen by one of their doctors.”
“You won’t be able to just hand them this slip of paper and get what you need.” Claire explained this as she slid into the car.
“Then what do we do?” Melanie was genuinely panicking over her professor’s health.
Hearing they couldn’t get the medicine instantly sent a spike of anxiety through her. “Don’t worry. You can’t get it at the hospital, but you can check across the street.”
“There are two or three excellent pharmacies over there.”
Claire gave Dewitt the directions as he started the engine.
