Chapter 1552
[ 645 words ]
Claire blinked.
“I thank you on behalf of my unborn child.”
Exhaustion weighed heavily in her eyes; she was only forcing herself to stay awake to banter with Rory.
“Clan Successor, if you’re tired, just go to sleep.”
“I can just crash on the couch later,” Rory offered, clearly noticing her fatigue.
She was terrified of letting their precious Clan Successor burn out.
This Clan Successor possessed not only incredible medical skills but also an absolute genius intellect nothing could be allowed to happen to her.
Claire actually didn’t mind sharing the bed with Rory.
“Don’t sleep on the couch. We’ve been through so much these past few days, aren’t you exhausted?”
“Hurry up, wash your face, and come get in bed.”
“I don’t toss and turn much, so you don’t have to worry about me kicking you onto the floor.”
Rory mumbled awkwardly, “I’m more worried about kicking you onto the floor.”
Claire just assumed she was joking.
But as it turned out, despite Rory being such an independent and straightforward girl, she was incredibly clingy in her sleep.
She practically glued herself to Claire, clinging to her like a koala.
Every time Claire shifted, Rory scooted right along with her.
Thank goodness the weather was cold, otherwise, Claire might have just fled the
room.
When Rory woke up the next morning, she found the Clan Successor staring at her with a highly conflicted expression.
Knowing she was in the wrong, Rory apologized, “I’m so sorry, Clan Successor. Am I a terrible sleeper?”
Claire gave a dry laugh. “Not terribly bad, but… I still think you should probably find a boyfriend in the future.”
Rory fell silent.
What did that have to do with getting a boyfriend?
“Nothing really, but you’d definitely sleep much better that way.”
Claire explained.
Rory instantly caught her drift.
She grumbled internally: Stinky men were rock-hard to hug, how could they possibly compare to holding the soft, sweet-smelling Clan Successor?
Still, weighed down by guilt, Rory was completely distracted for the rest of the morning.
When Claire and Rory finally went out for breakfast, Dane’s heart ached as he watched Claire yawning endlessly.
“Didn’t sleep well?”
When Dane asked that, Rory subconsciously shrank back.
She desperately wanted to explain that she genuinely hadn’t bullied the Clan Successor.
But doing so would only make her look guiltier.
Forget it, it was better to keep her mouth shut to avoid a scolding.
Jace, on the other hand, had a pretty good idea of why Claire looked so exhausted.
He and Rory had occasionally slept near each other while out in the wild.
Calling Rory a restless sleeper was a massive understatement.
He had completely forgotten to warn the Clan Successor.
Honestly, Claire would have been better off sharing a room with Mr. Green. He definitely would have accommodated her.
In Jace’s eyes, Dane’s character was incredibly upright.
“Yeah, I didn’t sleep well. I kept dreaming I was being chased by a bear,” Claire
remarked, shooting a pointed look at Rory.
Rory guiltily looked away.
Dane caught the subtle exchange

but seamlessly shifted the topic. just got a call. Officer Miller is bringing some people to see us
Since Claire was the one who
cracked the codes and she and Dane were the first to enter the lab,” they were crucial witnesses.
Naturally, the authorities needed them to provide a full report.
Furthermore, Claire had extensive knowledge about Dreamweed. The experts dispatched from Cabinda, along with the local Montarao specialists, were arriving soon.
They were hoping to discuss the botanical properties of the Dreamweed with her.
Claire had no choice but to stay and wait for them.
Since neither she nor Dane could leave, they simply went back to their rooms to catch up on some sleep after breakfast.
They agreed to meet the people Officer Miller mentioned around noon.
The other party, upon learning that Claire hadn’t slept well and needed rest, readily agreed to the delay.
The noon meeting was set at a restaurant in the center of town.
There, Claire met with the senior military leaders stationed in the area, as well as the experts who had rushed to the scene.
