Chapter 1553
[ 613 words ]
“This is Professor Yardley, a botany expert from Montara University, and Professor Quentin Hastings, a specialist in traditional medicine.”
“And this is Professor York Green, a traditional medicine expert from The Cabinda University…”
Officer Miller, still pushing through his injuries, introduced them to Claire one by one. Each of the three professors had brought a few of their top students along.
Claire gave a polite, general greeting to the group.
The professor from Cabinda University, knowing Claire was an incoming student at Cabinda Medical School, was exceptionally warm toward her.
His students also treated Claire with the immediate affection of a beloved junior peer.
Claire had crossed paths with Professor Green before, so they naturally shared a friendly rapport.
She just hadn’t expected him to be the one assigned to this crisis.
She didn’t know the two professors from Montara, but she remained perfectly polite and respectful.
Both professors eyed Claire with profound curiosity.
“For someone so young to identify an endangered medicinal plant is truly remarkable!”
Professor Yardley already had extensive research on the flora of The Aila Highlands; he was arguably the foremost expert on the mountain range and had volunteered for this mission.
Even he had never actually seen Dreamweed before.
Despite knowing it was a medicinal herb, he didn’t technically need to be involved as a botanist, but his scientific curiosity had driven him here anyway.
“You flatter me, Professor Yardley. I merely got lucky and stumbled across an illustration of Dreamweed in my mentor’s private library.”
Professor Quentin Hastings was equally intrigued as to how Claire could recognize a legendary herb widely believed to be extinct.
While the fruit of the Dreamweed was highly toxic, its roots were an incredibly rare and potent medicine.
Since the scientific community had long assumed the plant was eradicated, the knowledge to identify it had faded away over time.
Yet, they had to admit that Dreamweed possessed undeniable medicinal value.
“Is this mentor you mentioned a professor at The Cabinda University?”
Claire shook her head. “No, he was my first mentor in traditional medicine.”
“I’ve heard your medical skills

mentor must be truly extraordinary
Before arriving, they had not only reviewed data on Dreamweed but also done some background checks on this student, Claire.
She was just a student, yet her brilliance was far beyond her years.
“My mentor is indeed quite exceptional.”
Claire made no attempt to be modest on this point.
Quentin Hastings didn’t mind her confidence at all; given how

had to be a titan in the medical field.
However, one of his students lacked such tact.
Someone scoffed loudly, “Wow, zero humility.”
The reaction clearly signaled a complete disbelief in Claire’s skills, and even more
doubt about her mentor’s supposed greatness.
People could insult her all they wanted, but insulting Hale was crossing the line.
“Did you find a problem with something I said?”
“Or do you just think I’m a fraud blowing hot air?”
The girl hadn’t expected Claire to call her out so publicly.
She had muttered her insult under her breath, yet Claire had addressed her at full
volume, putting her on the spot.
Instantly, every eye in the room snapped toward her.
The girl was Evie Grant, and she was quite pretty.
But she had a notoriously terrible temper and a deeply arrogant streak.
She also happened to be the niece of Quentin Hastings’ wife.
Quentin hadn’t originally planned bring her, but under immense

She didn’t take anyone else’s place, and Quentin had even covered her travel expenses out of his own pocket.
It was his way of keeping the peace at home.
But Evie picking fights the moment she arrived was stepping way out of line.
Claire noticed Professor Hastings frowning, which meant she had no reason to hold back against this girl.
