Chapter 1571
[ 603 words ]
This sudden realization hit Reese hard. They had been played.
“Graves, didn’t you say you had people waiting for us on the second basement level?”
Why were they suddenly forced to escape on their own?
If Dane and his men noticed anything was off, would they even make it out alive?
“Get in the car. It’s faster than waiting for my contacts. Stop wasting time and move!” Graves snapped.
He was rapidly losing patience.
If they waited any longer, the pursuers from upstairs would undoubtedly corner them.
Neither Claire’s fiancé nor her bodyguards were fools; discovering the deception was only a matter of time.
That was precisely why Graves refused to risk going inside himself.
He knew that if he got caught this time, there would be no walking away.
Hearing his tone, Reese knew they couldn’t stall for another second.
Zachary took the wheel, Reese slid into the passenger seat, and Claire was unceremoniously shoved into the trunk.
Zeke lay stretched across the back seat.
Although Claire had extracted the bullets and provided medication that accelerated his healing, he was still a severely wounded man recovering from two gunshots.
They had changed their clothes, playing the part of an ordinary couple picking up an elderly relative from the hospital.
Admittedly, these Sundara spies knew how to execute a convincing disguise.
Unfortunately for them, Jace was already hot on their trail.
The moment the black Honda pulled away, Jace’s car glided right behind it.
He kept a safe distance, seamlessly relaying their coordinates to his team. Receiving the intel, Stephen mobilized instantly, heading out with Dane by his side. They had been locked and loaded, waiting for Zeke to unwittingly lead them straight to Graves.
What Graves didn’t realize was that Claire had been “captured” so easily because she had orchestrated the entire scenario.
She had anticipated Reese’s trap and prepared her countermeasures.
The second the ether-soaked cloth clamped over her face, she had stopped breathing.
She hadn’t inhaled enough of the chemical to matter.
Losing consciousness was never part of the equation.
She was faking it. Lying in the pitch-black trunk, she was wide awake and hyper-
aware.
She quietly shifted into a more comfortable position, patiently waiting to arrive at their destination.
Up front, Reese and Zachary remained blissfully unaware of the tail behind them.
Graves, however, was a creature of profound paranoia. Though he hadn’t entered the garage he wa
lurking just outside the hospital,
monitoring their only escape route.
He was a mastermind. Noticing that Reese’s extraction was going a little too smoothly, he immediately decided to vanish.
With calculated precision, he
remotely directed Reese’s car to et
change routes while he rented a
nearby e-bike and slipped away into the city. Śwnovels
An e-bike wouldn’t get him far, but it made him entirely invisible to any pursuers.
No one knew he had been traveling alongside the extraction team.
After observing the traffic flow, he confirmed his suspicions: the police were already tailing the Honda.
Claire was nothing more than bait, and the crew in that car was doomed.
Naturally, Graves had zero intention of warning them.
Meanwhile, Stephen and Dane sensed a shift in the vehicle’s erratic movements.
“Graves knows. He’s figured out our plan,” Stephen murmured from the passenger seat, his expression darkening.
Graves was a genius. The black
Honda was driving in endless,
evasive circles, and as a local
operative, he had instantly
recognized the setup.
The man had slipped through the fingers of Solenia’s top-tier national security forces
before; he was never going to be an easy catch.
Stephen immediately radioed the other units, ordering them to pivot and hunt for Graves.
But Stephen’s car had to stay locked onto the Honda.
Claire was trapped in that trunk, and her safety trumped everything else.
Oblivious to the danger, Reese and Zachary continued their frantic drive.
However, Graves messaged them twice in quick succession, ordering them to change locations.
