Chapter 1612

Or perhaps some international organization had targeted them.
Of course, that was entirely Lawler’s own paranoid speculation.
Until the watchers made a move, there was nothing they could do anyway.
“Oh, it’s you guys,” Ethan realized, realization dawning on his face.
No wonder he had felt eyes on him throughout lunch.
He had thought he was just being paranoid.
Turns out, someone really had been watching him.
What was the deal with these three girls?
They were starting to feel like lingering ghosts.
He seemed to bump into them everywhere.
“Ethan, is this your grandfather?”
“He looks just like you!”
Macy thought her greeting was flawlessly executed.
Any elder would surely appreciate a sweet, polite girl like her, right?
Claire nearly burst out laughing.
Barry might have had a child late in life, but having his son’s classmate call him ‘grandfather’ had to sting.
Barry, however, was completely used to it.
He just smiled warmly. “You have a sharp eye, young lady. You’re absolutely right, I am Ethan’s grandfather.”
Macy let out a silent sigh of relief. She had been terrified of making a mistake.
“You look so young! If I didn’t know better, I would have thought you were his father.” Ethan couldn’t hold it in any longer and deadpanned, “He is my father.”
Macy’s jaw dropped. “Oh, I… I’m so sorry, I thought…”
Being a late-in-life child, Ethan was totally accustomed to people assuming Barry was his grandfather.
Who could blame them? Barry looked old for his age, and his hair had turned white early.
But Macy’s smug, self-congratulatory attempt at flattery still made him cringe.
He didn’t care about his dad’s age, but Macy’s awkward backpedaling made the whole situation incredibly weird.
Barry maintained his gentle demeanor. “It’s quite alright. I had Ethan late in life, so he’s still quite young.”
“Ethan, Lawler and I are heading

Barry was perfectly polite, but Macy still felt a sharp sting of rejection.
He hadn’t asked for her name, nor did he ask Ethan to introduce her.
That complete indifference contrasted violently with the warm, familiar way he addressed Claire as ‘Claire.’
Unfortunately for Macy, no one cared about her bruised ego.
Even if they noticed, they wouldn’t give a damn.
If she was upset, she could stay upset.
The world was full of upset people.
One more wouldn’t make a difference.
It was still early afternoon-they had plenty of time to stroll around, shopping, or head back to the dorms to study.
Ethan nodded. “Sounds good. Are you and Lawler staying far from here?” Worried his dad and Lawler might get lost, Ethan couldn’t help but check.
Lawler chuckled. “Don’t worry, Ethan. I won’t lose the boss.”
Claire owned a car but hadn’t driven it to campus.
She offered, “Lawler, you can take my car.”
“It’s much easier to get around the city if you drive yourselves.”
Lawler looked surprised. “You bought a car, Claire?”
She was a college student in Cabinda and already had her own car? Did she go off- campus that often?
Were universities this lenient nowadays?
Claire didn’t elaborate, simply stating, “It’s convenient. It’s parked at my apartment across thes
