Chapter 1719

Claire was completely speechless.
She honestly never expected a university counselor to urge her to slack off, go partying, and stop obsessing over saving lives.
But the counselor was right. Once she became a full-time surgeon, every single day of her life would be dedicated to operating on patients. There was no need to burn herself out now.
Unfortunately, she didn’t have a choice.
Desperate patients were constantly lining up at her door. She could reject one, but she couldn’t reject an entire mob.
And right now, Lucas Charles was waiting for her and Tandy to reconstruct his spine.
“I understand, Professor. I promise I’ll prioritize my rest,” Claire replied sincerely. She wasn’t just giving the counselor lip service.
She fully intended to freeze all new patient intakes, focusing exclusively on her current roster for the foreseeable future.
Even Priscilla Hastings barely saw Claire these days, let alone anyone else on campus.
Because freshmen were mandated to live on campus, Claire occasionally slept in her dorm, otherwise, her roommates would literally never see her.
The dorm crew had just thrown a party recently, so when Claire vanished for a few days, she simply claimed she had shadowed a senior surgeon to an out-of-town conference to gain some clinical exposure.
It was the exact same bulletproof alibi the university had fabricated for Sienna Vaughan.
When the girls finally caught up with her, they immediately bombarded her with questions about the ‘conference.’
“Claire, is it true that your resume is already maxed out, and you’re barely a freshman?”
Skye looked at her with pure awe.
As a pharmacology major, Skye was desperate to get out of the labs and experience the real medical world.
Claire handed out some premium fruit she had bought on the way back and finally addressed their curiosity. “The trip was actually a complete nightmare.”
“I almost didn’t make it back.”
“Don’t idolize my schedule. Stick to your own timeline.”
“Skye, focus on crushing your foundational chemistry first. The clinical internships will come later.”
As for Lex and Zara, they didn’t need any advice.
Lex already possessed a terrifying amount of real-world business experience, even
if it had absolutely nothing to do with medicine.
And Zara didn’t need to grind for internships; her family could snap their fingers and place her in any executive suite in the city.
Plus, she had Reid Dalton backing her up now.
Zara literally didn’t have a single care in the world.
Only Skye felt the crushing pressure. She lacked Lex’s ruthless survival
instincts and Zara’s billionaire
safety
net, leaving her caught in a brutal state of anxiety.

“I know rushing won’t help. My mom keeps calling, begging me not to destroy myself studying. She wants me to find a work-life balance.”
The reason her mother was so insistent was because Skye had practically worked herself to death preparing for the college entrance exams.
Now that she was enrolled in the nation’s most elite university, why couldn’t she just relax for a minute?
Why did she have to push herself to the breaking point?
But Skye knew the terrifying truth: if she coasted through college, she would be
annihilated in the corporate meat grinder after graduation.
Getting into a top-tier school didn’t guarantee a damn thing when she was
surrounded by psychotic overachievers!
Especially Claire. She was an absolute genius and worked harder than anyone else. How was anyone supposed to compete with that?
“Your mom is right. You need to pace yourself in college. Let me guess, did she also demand you start dating?”
Claire found Skye’s mother highly entertaining.
Skye choked on her fruit. “Yes! My mom explicitly said if I don’t locke down a guy in college, navigating the dating market oncem a working professional will be a waking nightmare.”
Because once you enter the real world, dating isn’t about love anymore; it’s a brutal financial transaction.
“My mom is desperate for me to
start dating. She claims my
thirty-year-old cousin is still suffering through blind dates because she
failed to secure an elite guy while she was in school.”
Claire nodded slowly. “Your mom is actually a brilliant strategist.”
“Look at me. I have a lethal fiancé. Zara is officially engaged to Reid Dalton.”
“If you want a top-tier guy, you have to strike early.”
“Otherwise, you’ll be left fighting over the scraps.”
Zara vehemently agreed with Claire’s brutal assessment.
