Chapter 1807

Claire even heard them discussing the national soccer team.
She had absolutely no idea why that was a topic worth talking about.
“And you must be the young lady my Valerie frightened,” Mr. Winthrop said warmly.
He truly hadn’t ignored a single person at the table.
Even Claire received a special, personalized greeting.
“Take a look at the menu. If there’s anything you like, just order it.”
“My girl doesn’t know how to interact with people and can be a bit stubborn.”
“If you hadn’t been there when she fainted, she might have cracked her head on the pavement.”
“Thanks to you asking the professors to take her to the hospital, she’s perfectly fine. If you don’t mind, you can just call me Uncle Winthrop.”
“Let me toast to you.” Mr. Winthrop was clearly a master of dinner table etiquette.
Before Norris could step in on Claire’s behalf, Valerie loudly interrupted her own father. “Dad! She’s a girl. Why are you making her drink?”
Mr. Winthrop smacked his forehead. “Look at me, completely forgetting my manners. Just have some juice, Claire.”
“Please, make yourself at home.”
Claire nodded politely, murmuring her agreement.
Logically speaking, if the second-most powerful man in Cabinda offered a toast, most people would take at least a sip of alcohol.
But not Claire.
She very honestly picked up her teacup instead.
Mr. Winthrop actually appreciated her lack of pretension.
Many people instantly changed their attitude the moment they found out Valerie was his daughter.
But this young student remained calm and collected, completely unfazed by his status.
It seemed the younger generation really was different from his own.
Or perhaps it was because Claire herself came from an extraordinary background?
Mr. Winthrop recalled his background check, which revealed she was the newly recognized cousin of the Churchill family.
Her mother was Melissa, meaning she had every right to carry herself with pride.
“Valerie doesn’t have many friends. It would be wonderful if you two could get to know each other better.”
“My daughter might be stubborn, but she has a good heart…”
Mr. Winthrop truly worried endlessly about his child.
Because she had grown up without a mother, she was deeply sensitive, which had led him to
overcompensate and spoil her a bit too much.
But her core was good. At the very least, she had never done anything illegal or malicious.
Even though she was a handful, he genuinely cherished the joy of raising a daughter.
Unlike Larkin Wade’s son, who gave him a headache every other day.
In fact, Mr. Wade even found his own son annoying.
The two fathers often found solace in complaining to each other.
Throughout the meal, Claire didn’t say much.
Honoria, on the other hand, repeatedly tried to shower Norris with attention.
Every time she saw him place a chojce cut of food onto Claire’s plate, she gripped the hem of her beautiful dress so tightly it wrinkled.
Claire could practically feel the waves of resentment rolling off Honoria.
Yet, whenever Claire glanced her way, Honoria’s face remained a picture of gentle elegance.
“I heard you and Norris have known each other for a long time?”
“When you participated in the math competition, he was your team leader, wasn’t he?”
After Norris peeled yet another shrimp for Claire, Honoria seemed unable to hold back any longer.
“That’s right,” Claire answered smoothly, knowing her brother had zero interest in entertaining the woman.
Hearing the response come from Claire, Honoria’s mood visibly dipped.
“Then you two cousins must have a very special bond.”
Honoria’s comment made everyone at the table pause.
Valerie was confused because she didn’t know they were related. The others knew, but pointing out their “bond” sounded incredibly

What exactly was she implying?
“We certainly do. I almost ended up as his student,” Claire replied without missing a
