Chapter 1809
[ 608 words ]
Valerie practically wanted to give Claire a standing ovation. This girl was simply too cool.
“You’re so right!”
She decided she wanted to be just like Claire from now on!
“Don’t copy me. If you start driving a supercar to campus, your dad is going to end up under investigation.”
Seeing Valerie looking entirely too eager, Claire couldn’t help but issue a warning. Valerie paused. “…I don’t even drive.”
With her temper, she didn’t dare get behind the wheel. If she drove, she’d probably smash right through the university gates.
Whether anyone got hurt was one thing, but having the school bill her for a new gate would be mortifying.
She wasn’t quite ready to start demolishing campus property.
“Exactly. Just focus on mastering your skateboard. It’s the same thrill.”
Claire nodded with total seriousness.
Valerie couldn’t tell if that was a compliment or an insult.
Initially, Mr. Winthrop had noticed his niece’s interest in Norris and had considered playing matchmaker.
But after seeing how blatantly obvious she was being and how utterly unfazed the professor remained he dropped the idea.
If the man wasn’t interested, forcing it was pointless.
Honoria wasn’t bad-looking and was highly educated. She wouldn’t have trouble finding a decent young man in the future.
Of course, Norris was exceptionally outstanding.
It made him wonder which lucky girl would eventually win the heart of such a brilliant young man.
Mr. Winthrop had a daughter of his own, and naturally, he hoped she would find a wonderful husband someday.
Even so, he didn’t dare dream of securing someone of Norris’s caliber for her.
Unless, of course, a miracle fell straight from the sky.
He knew his daughter all too well. Marrying her off would probably feel like inflicting a natural disaster on whoever took her.
He didn’t care about a prospective husband’s wealth; he only prayed the man had good character and would treat his little girl well.
Ironically, finding a man who met those simple requirements was incredibly difficult.
Most men who pursued wealthy daughters had ulterior motives.
Anyone who willingly married into power and acted perfectly subservient almost always had a specific agenda.
It seemed he was destined to worry about her marriage for the rest of his life.
For Norris, the dinner was somewhat torturous.
And when they finally walked out after the meal, they ran into a bit of a situation.
“Claire? Norris?”
Claire thought the voice sounded
familiar. She turned to see a prethet
face peeking out from an adjacent private room.
With short hair and luminous skin, she looked both gentle and striking.
Her voice was laced with genuine surprise.
Her eyes practically glowed with joy.
Claire glanced at Norris. This was his former schoolmate; surely he knew who she was?
Norris’s expression remained perfectly neutral. “Fannie.”
“Oh, the journalist!” Claire finally remembered.

At the time, she had made her admiration for Norris quite obvious, though he had shown absolutely zero reaction.
Fannie hadn’t confessed her feelings on the spot, but her infatuation was clear for anyone to see.
Naturally, Norris had pretended not to notice.
“I can’t believe you remember me, Claire,” Fannie beamed.
But her attention quickly shifted to the man beside her. “I never expected to run into you tonight, Norris.”
Fannie’s face was flushed, suggesting she wasn’t just happy—she was also a little drunk.
The moment she finished speaking, a man stepped out of the private room behind
her.
He immediately reached out to support her. “Fannie, you’ve had too much to drink.”
The second his hand touched her waist, she dodged away.
“Julian, I ran into my old friends. You can go on ahead without me.”
After dodging him, Fannie instinctively stepped closer to Claire and Norris.
