Chapter 1854
[ 518 words ]
She even suspected Honoria was the one spreading the rumors herself.
It was a backdoor way of using public opinion to pressure Norris into being with her.
If Honoria was truly behind it, Claire found her actions utterly despicable.
“You can’t just cut in line. Claire already promised to treat me today,” Valerie chimed in, stepping up when Claire remained silent.
She was incredibly annoyed with her cousin’s tactics.
It was as if she’d bulldoze over anyone to get what she wanted.
Honoria couldn’t fathom why her cousin was acting so brainless. Why was she sabotaging her?
They were family; shouldn’t Valerie be helping her persuade Claire?
“I just like you both and wanted to take you to a nice dinner.” Honoria was struggling
to keep her composure.
Fortunately, before Valerie could explode, Claire agreed to the meal.
It was summer, and Honoria took them out for Sundaran cuisine.
It wasn’t near campus; it was right in the city center.
As for Claire and Valerie?
Neither of them had any particular love for Sundaran food.
But as guests, they couldn’t exactly complain about the host’s choice and ruin the mood.
However, since Claire was driving with Valerie in the passenger seat, the complaints flowed freely the entire way.
“I have no idea what’s wrong with her. She spent a few years in Sundara and now her entire lifestyle is identical to theirs.”
“She’s obsessed with their food and their etiquette. Honestly, I’m starting to think my aunt was right.”
Claire’s hands paused slightly on the steering wheel. “What did your aunt say again?”
Claire actually remembered perfectly well, but she asked to keep the conversation flowing and to confirm the details.
“She said she wasn’t her daughter, and demanded she give her daughter back!”
Claire’s brow furrowed tightly. “Did your aunt have any proof when she said that?”
Valerie sighed. “What proof could
she have? It’s just that Honoria became completely obsessed with
Sundaran culture. Even after coming back, some of her mannerisms make people uncomfortable.”
“But then again, she was abroad for years. It’s normal to change. Nobody stays exactly the same.”
“My aunt probably just blurted it out during an argument.”
“And she died in that car crash not long after they fought.”
“Honoria cried so hard at the funeral.”
“She even said she regretted ever going abroad and missing those last few years with her family…”
Looking back, Valerie didn’t think her cousin had done anything maliciously wrong. The relatives had even comforted her, saying the dead couldn’t be brought back and that no one wanted the accident to happen.
They told Honoria not to blame herself.
At the time, Valerie genuinely believed Honoria regretted going to Sundara.
If she had stayed, her career would have been totally different, and her aunt’s life
trajectory would have drastically shifted too.
“But now it looks like she only
regretted it in the moment. She’s completely reverted back to how she was
en she first returned from
Sundara
Claire didn’t offer an opinion either way.
They arrived at the Sundaran restaurant Honoria had raved about. It was undeniably upscale and high-quality.
Guests could even change into traditional kimonos for photos if they wanted.
Neither Claire nor Valerie had any
that, and Honoria didn’t
inner, simply guiding them
into a private dining room
It was clear Honoria had booked this reservation well in advance.
