Chapter 1873
[ 648 words ]
“I made some soup, and I brought a portion for Claire too. There’s extra, so Norris can have some as well. Why don’t you both have some before you start packing?”
Honoria made a move to follow Claire and Norris into the room.
“No, no, I’ve had more than enough soup over the past few days.”
Claire hurriedly refused.
“I’ve eaten bland food for three days straight. I’m planning to go out for some hot pot later.”
“You should save the soup for Valerie.”
She was practically afraid Honoria had poisoned the soup.
The smile on Honoria’s lips froze. She hadn’t expected Claire to be so bluntly unappreciative.
“Valerie already has her portion, and she can’t finish this much by herself anyway. I intentionally prepared this for the two of you.”
Claire politely declined. “I really don’t want any.”
Honoria was forced to look at Norris.
Norris’s expression was icy. “I’ll pass as well. Thank you for your kindness, Honoria, but we have things to do.”
In front of Honoria, Norris had completely abandoned even the most basic gentlemanly etiquette.
He directly pulled Claire inside and then shut the door to the room.
Honoria had the door slammed in her face, and her expression turned incredibly ugly.
Expressionless, she carried the thermos into Valerie Winthrop’s room.
The second she saw Valerie, her expression morphed back into a gentle, soft smile.
“Valerie, time for some soup.”
“How are you feeling today?”
Valerie was speechless. Her expression revealed a faint hint of despair.
God above, she didn’t want to drink any more soup either.
No matter what kind of soup it was, drinking it for three days straight was enough to make anyone sick.
“Honoria, can I please not drink the soup? I’m completely sick of it.”
Valerie was much more direct when she spoke.
But her directness also easily put Honoria in an awkward position.
Just looking at Honoria’s current expression made that obvious.
The smile on her face froze once again.
“Valerie, I simmered this soup for three hours today, and I even burned my hand. Are you really not going to have a single sip?”
Honoria started playing the victim.
That tactic was indeed effective at stirring up Valerie’s guilt.
But she still stubbornly refused to drink it. “Why don’t you take it to my dad? He’s so busy every day, and I always worry he isnt eating properly
Honoria hadn’t anticipated Valerie making a suggestion like that.
It was a stroke of genius.
The person she wanted to give it to the most was Norris.
But if Mr. Winthrop was willing to drink it, that wouldn’t be a bad option either.
“Forget it, don’t give it to my dad. He’s way too busy to see you.”
Although Valerie was just telling the truth, Honoria’s expression grew worse and
worse.
Honoria truly disliked this cousin of hers. Why did she always have to speak so abrasively?
But unfortunately, she was Mr. Winthrop’s daughter.
With that status alone, even if she weren’t her cousin, Honoria would still treat her with the utmost courtesy.
Meanwhile, after Claire and Norris returned to the room, Norris explained that he had bumped into Honoria in the hospital lobby.
Since they ran into each other and were heading to the exact same destination, Norris couldn’t have avoided her even if he wanted to.
What’s more, if he had intentionally tried to avoid her, Honoria probably would have just clung to him tighter.
Norris simply decided to ignore her, gave a brief greeting, and stepped into the elevator.
Norris kept looking at his phone the entire time they were in the elevator. He would rather grade his students’ assignments on his phone than pay attention to Honoria.
Fortunately, Honoria had the sense not to force a conversation.
Norris was actually a little surprised. This was a first.
However, when he later saw Honoria trying to shove the thermos into their hands,
he immediately understood her intentions.
Since she was planning to strike up
a conversation later anyway, wasn’t
it perfect to let Norris lower his
guard in the elevator first?
Claire almost wanted to pat Norris on the back. “Good thing your willpower is strong.”
