Chapter 1066
He was using Winrich’s crisis to maximize profits for Nexus Dynamics, all while making her owe him a favor.
But for all his brilliant calculations, he had misjudged one crucial detail.
Noreen Gilmore absolutely loathed being played for a fool.
“I appreciate the thought, Silas.”
Noreen finally spoke, her voice frigid and firm, resonating with absolute finality.
“However, I can handle Winrich’s problems on my own. As for Nexus Dynamics…” She paused, her gaze slicing sharply across Silas’s furrowed brow. “I don’t think there’s any need for us to collaborate at the moment.”
With that, she dismissed Silas entirely, calling Claire over as they walked off to find her fellow apprentices.
Silas stood frozen, his smile stiffening into an unnatural mask.
He hadn’t expected Noreen to reject him so bluntly, leaving absolutely zero room for negotiation.
Yolande didn’t understand the intricacies of the business world, but even she sensed the tension in their conversation.
She carefully tugged at Silas’s sleeve. “Silas, is Noreen mad?”
She hadn’t missed the fleeting coldness in Noreen’s eyes as she walked away.
Silas composed himself. “No, don’t overthink it.”
Even though he denied it, Yolande still felt uneasy.
She had wanted to talk more with Noreen, but now she had to drop the idea entirely.
Halley Joyner’s students were all incredibly busy, so it was rare for them to all gather together like this.
The only flaw in the evening was that Dylan had to leave early due to an emergency. But it didn’t ruin the mood; Halley was still overjoyed.
Riding the high of the night, he couldn’t resist downing a couple of extra drinks.
Just as he reached for a third glass,
Wilbur quickly snatched it away net
“Halley, are you hoarding the
good
stuff from us? Let me have a taste.
Before Halley could stop him, Wilbur downed the drink in one gulp.
He glared at his student, absolutely furious. “I’m going to sell you off one of these days, you brat!”
“Make sure the buyer is young and beautiful.”
Halley scoffed. “In your dreams! I’m selling you to a rich, fifty-something-year-old woman.”
Noreen and Claire walked over right at that moment.
“Halley, Wilbur is just trying to keep you from drinking too much,” Noreen said, defending her fellow apprentice.
Halley was annoyed, but he knew she was right.
He let out a haughty scoff, signaling that he wouldn’t lower himself to argue with Wilbur.
“But she’s right, you really can’t drink anymore,” Noreen added, shifting her focus back to Halley.
Though frustrated, Halley had to tolerate it.
After all, this girl standing before him was his most prized student.
Seeing him fall silent, Wilbur complained dramatically, “Halley, your favoritism is way too obvious You listen when Noreen tells you what to do, but when we say anything, you immediately start yetting!”
Halley scoffed again. “I’ve preferred daughters over sons for a long time. If you think it’s unfair go get a sex change. Maybe then I’ll treat you
better.”

Wilbur was left utterly speechless.
It was Claire’s first time seeing Wilbur get shut down, and she couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Her laughter caught Halley’s attention.
“Oh, you must be Noreen’s friend. You’re stunning, like a movie star. Are you seeing anyone? If not, I can introduce you to a few great guys.”
Claire felt a bit overwhelmed by the older man’s enthusiasm and shifted awkwardly.
Wilbur chimed in again. “I’m single too. Why aren’t you worried about my love life? Am I just invisible?”
