Chapter 1069
Without waiting for her response, he leaned in closer and murmured in her ear, “It’s the date we first slept together.”
Boom. Something instantly exploded in Noreen’s mind.
Why would he remember something like that?!
He was out of his mind!
Seeing that even her ears were burning crimson with embarrassment, Seth knew he had to stop teasing her.
If he pushed too far and made her run off, he’d be the one suffering.
So he laced his fingers through hers, pulling her hand tightly against his, before unlocking the door. “Miss Gilmore, welcome to my world.”
This wasn’t her first time here; she had come inside the last time she dropped him off.
But this time felt entirely different.
It felt as though she was truly entering his inner sanctuary.
Nothing had really changed in the apartment.
Everything felt just like it did in the past.
Except for the wall that used to be covered in sticky notes about him, now, every single note was about her.
Her likes and dislikes.
Her schedule.
Reminders for things she needed to handle recently.
Noreen’s fingers gently brushed over the notes, imagining the serious expression on
his face as he meticulously wrote each one.
He must have been incredibly focused.
Just like she had been, all those years ago.
The clock on the wall was nearing midnight.
Noreen figured that they had spent too much time messing around.
There was no way they were eating cake tonight.
*Forget it, there’s always next time.*
She pressed her lips together, quietly swallowing a sliver of disappointment. It was a spontaneous idea anyway. She couldn’t realistically expect him to bake one from scratch right now.
Plus, he had been waiting downstairs all night. He was exhausted and needed to rest.
Just as Noreen formed the thought, she turned to tell Seth.
But she saw him walking out of the kitchen, carefully holding a finished cake.
Noreen froze, her eyes widening in disbelief.

She didn’t even realize she had taken a step toward him. Her voice was as soft as a
dream. “When did you make this?”
Seth set the cake down on the table in front of her and lit the candles.
The flames flickered gently between them.
He looked at her, amusement dancing in his eyes. “I made it this afternoon. But I wasn’t sure if you’d actually come over so didn’t tell you
To say she wasn’t moved would be a lie.
Noreen choked up.
This man was always like this, quietly doing so much behind her back.
Like baking this cake.
Or paving an escape route for her six years ago.
“Why are you just standing there? Make a wish, it’s almost midnight,” Seth gently reminded her.
What was reflected in Noreen’s eyes right now wasn’t the flickering flames, but him.
She clasped her hands together, making a wish just like she used to.
She wished for her mother to live a long, healthy life.
And she wished for Seth to get everything he ever wanted.
After five years, she finally made another wish involving him.
As soon as she finished, the clock struck midnight.
She heard Seth speak.
*Noreen, happy birthday.*
As they cut the cake, Seth wrapped his arms around her from behind, guiding her hands with his own.
His head was hovering just over her right shoulder, his warm breath fanning directly onto the tip of her ear.
Her ear began to burn again.
Noreen’s pulse quickened.
If Seth hadn’t been guiding her, she definitely would have cut the cake completely crooked.
“Try it and see if it tastes like the
ones you used to make.” Seth
scooped up a spoonful and brought
it to her mouth.

Noreen darted her tongue out, taking a tiny taste.
Seth’s Adam’s apple bobbed heavily as his eyes darkened into an intense, predatory
gaze.
