Chapter 1163
At three in the morning, the apartment was completely silent.
Noreen moved as quietly as possible, terrified of waking the others.
But just as her hand wrapped around her bedroom door handle, she spotted a lone figure sitting on the balcony.
It was Claire.
Why was she still awake?
Changing direction, Noreen walked over to her.
Claire was sitting alone on the balcony, drinking. Two empty beer cans already rested on the table beside her.
“Can’t sleep?” Noreen took a seat next to her.
Claire tilted her head, her face flushed from the alcohol. “Finally decided to come back? I thought you weren’t coming home tonight.”
Noreen felt a pang of guilt under her stare. She popped open another beer and clinked it against Claire’s can, trying to change the subject. “Are you losing sleep over the divorce?”
“Don’t change the subject.” For once, Claire wasn’t easily distracted. “Answer me first. Did you two…”
“No!” Noreen immediately denied it.
Claire looked even more frantic. “Don’t tell me he actually has performance issues? Didn’t you say losing a kidney wouldn’t affect that?”
Noreen opened her mouth to explain the real reason.
But Claire, always impatient, kept talking before she could get a word in. “They say
a man’s prime ends at twenty-five. That jerk Seth is already thirty-five. The spirit might be willing, but the flesh is weak.”
“Maybe you should just dump him!”
Noreen was speechless.
Just hours ago, she had given the relationship her blessing, and now she was telling her to dump him.
Women really were fickle.
“I’m looking out for your sex life here.” Claire finished the last sip from her can and reached for another.
Noreen stopped her.
Claire sighed, sounding genuinely devastated. “You can’t just be celibate for the rest
of your life, right? Even if he’s got great technique in other areas, it doesn’t replace the real deal.”
“How could he have erectile dysfunction?”
Seeing her spiral into utter
nonsense, Noreen clamped a hand
over her mouth and leaned in to whisper. “I was the one who didn’t want to move too fast it’s not what you think.”
Claire stared at her. “…Are you a Navy SEAL or something? How is your willpower that strong?”
Noreen fell silent.
Well, they couldn’t exactly go all the way in a car…
Tonight just wasn’t the right time.
Forget it. There was no explaining this to her.
“What time is your flight tomorrow? I’ll drive you.”
Claire let out a long sigh. “I’m not flying.”
Noreen shot up from her chair. “Did that bastard back out again?”
“No.” Claire shrugged, feigning nonchalance. “That bastard said he had some important business- meeting abroad. He’ll be back in a few days, and then we’ll go get the paperwork done.”
According to the law, they could get their divorce certificate anytime within thirty
days after the cooling-off period ended.
Noreen frowned. “You don’t think he’s pulling another stunt, do you?”
After all, the guy had a terrible track record. His reputation was garbage.
“He sounded pretty serious on the phone. It’s probably a real emergency,” Claire said.
Reassured, Noreen leaned back in
her chair. “That’s fine. The lawsuit is still processing anyway. If he says no we can just take him straight to court. It won’t change anything.”
“How does it not change anything?” Claire grumbled bitterly. “I am in the prime of
my sexual awakening.”
“… You’re ovulating again, aren’t you? Go to bed!” Noreen rolled her eyes.
She couldn’t deal with this. Claire was all talk.
Yielding to Noreen’s authority, Claire abandoned her beer and headed back to her room.
Yet somehow, the alcohol had only made her mind sharper.
Tossing and turning in bed, she eventually gave up and pulled out her phone to scroll through videos.
As soon as the app opened, she saw a new update from someone she followed.
