Chapter 1592
[ 613 words ]
It was only then that they realized their boss had dragged a walking disaster right into their living room.
When Jace popped the trunk and stepped out, the boss’s face turned a sickening shade of gray.
He desperately wanted to log back onto the dark web and tell the buyer to shove the contract.
Could he just return the golden goose?
Before the cops could even lay a hand on him, the head of the smuggling ring beat the absolute hell out of him.
Even though they were all cuffed, the ringleader managed to land several brutal kicks on the idiot who brought the police to their doorstep.
The rest of the crew joined in, stomping the life out of him.
Stephen watched the carnage with icy indifference, while his officers stood around, unsure if they should intervene.
Technically, it was a gang dispute.
“Captain, should we break it up?”
If they let this continue, the smuggler might actually get stomped to death in their custody.
“Internal disputes are outside our jurisdiction.”
Stephen’s voice was devoid of emotion.
Every time he pictured the two officers who nearly died today, he wanted to bury every single one of these traffickers himself.
A beating was nothing. As long as the man was breathing enough to talk in an interrogation room, that was fine by him.
After thoroughly enjoying the brutal affection of his crew, the boss finally saw the error of his ways.
If no one intervened, he was actually going to die!
“Help! Help me! Please, Officers, help me!”
Watching a massive, hardened criminal crying and begging the police for mercy was a truly pathetic sight.
Not a single officer felt an ounce of pity for him.
Because locked inside the basement of this compound were over a dozen terrified young men and women.
These were the “captives” the smugglers had been bragging about.
God only knew who the buyers were, but every single one of these kids had been lured here under false pretenses.
They were held in cages, waiting to be shipped across the border to Kaston to be sold.
Trafficking didn’t pay out massive individual bounties, but the sheer volume made it highly lucrative.
“How can you cops just stand there and watch a man die?!”
Seeing the police turn their backs on him, the smuggler spat out a mouthful of blood in sheer outrage.
“Captain, that’s probably enough. We don’t want a body on our hands.”
Seeing the man coughing up blood, one of the officers finally spoke up.
Stephen turned back around, his gaze sweeping over the battered smugglers.
“Take them all in. Separate holding cells. I want them squeezed for every piece of intel they have!”
Dane, meanwhile, had long since found Claire.
She had been escorted out by Jace, and together, they had already freed the dozen or so hostages locked in the basement.
If not for those two, the raid wouldn’t have gone nearly as smoothly.
Jace was lethal, but the compound was guarded by vicious attack dogs.
He had slipped out of the trunk, neutralized the dogs, and silently opened the gates for the strike team.
Without him, the breach would have
been loud, giving the heavily
smugglers time to bar
themselves and fight back

Claire and Jace had both seen the sheer amount of firepower the cartel had stockpiled.
But the raid was so violently sudden
that the smugglers wel
blindsided and never had
to mount a defense.
Of course, once they realized they were surrounded, a few of the more desperate
ones tried to shoot their way out.
But Stephen had brought the absolute best shooters in his division, backed up by
Jace, Brooks Green, and River Green.
With a squad that lethal, the operation was flawless.
Once the dust settled, Claire walked
over to and immediate
noticed the dried blood caking
forehead Her stomach dropped.
“Stephen, you’re hurt?”
In a massive firefight, injuries were expected. But the blood on his face was already
dry. When had this happened?
