Chapter 1609
[ 550 words ]
“I told him, I told him. If I hadn’t, he really would’ve rushed to Cabinda.”
Barry had already applied to attend a medical conference.
And where was it? Cabinda. It was obvious he had done it just to check on Claire.
So, even though Ethan told him, it was a bit too late.
More accurately, Claire had returned a bit too late.
Just as Ethan finished speaking, his phone rang. It was Barry.
“Ethan, are you out of class yet?”
“Yes, Dad.” Ethan thought it was a stupid question. If he wasn’t out of class, would he have answered his phone?
His dad would have chewed him out.
Though Barry seemed gentle, he was incredibly strict with his only son.
“Good. Is Claire out of class too?” Barry’s real motive was immediately laid bare.
“I’m standing right next to her. Do you want to talk to her, Dad?”
Barry hadn’t expected such perfect timing.
“Yes, hand her the phone.”
Over the line, Barry first asked about Claire’s health before announcing that he had arrived in Cabinda and was waiting right outside the university gates.
“Claire, come grab lunch with Ethan and me.”
“It’s been a while since we’ve caught up.”
“Our team has made significant progress in our bone cancer research. I’m here for the conference, but I also plan to present our findings.”
“There’ll be a seminar afterward. If you’re interested, you should join us.”
To have major results in less than a year proved just how incredible Barry’s team
was.
And Claire had undoubtedly played a massive role in that success.
Though she downplayed her contributions, Barry would never forget the vital part she played.
“I’ve fallen really behind on my classes. You guys go ahead with the conference,” Claire replied. She genuinely felt her contribution was minimal.
It was Barry’s relentless dedication that led his team to this breakthrough. Claire hadn’t even attended the hospital’s
ommendation ceremony, let alone a high-profile exchange conference.
But this time, Barry was determined to have her there.
“Claire, traditional medicine and herbal treatments played a massive role in our bone cancer program. The higher ups specifically requested your presence.”
“On one hand, it’s to help everyone better study bone cancer treatments. On the other they hoping to cultivate a new generation of skilled traditional medicine practitioners.”
Barry couldn’t explain everything over the phone, but it was clear this was a push to elevate the status of traditional medicine.
By bringing attention to it and encouraging serious study, they hoped to integrate Western and traditional methods.
If bone cancer could be cured, couldn’t this approach work for other cancers as well?
The higher-ups saw a spark of hope in this single case.
Claire’s presence was absolutely crucial.
“When is the conference?”
Claire didn’t want to waste time, but if it didn’t conflict with her classes, she wasn’t entirely opposed to going.
“This Saturday.”
Today was only Thursday; there was plenty of time to prepare.
The conference was on Saturday, followed by a week-long seminar.
Claire would only need to give one or two lectures.
For her, it would be effortless.
“Saturday works,” Claire agreed.
She knew Barry had fought hard to get her this opportunity. It would look incredible
on her resume.
Refusing again would simply be ungrateful.
“Great! Come out and let’s get some lunch.”
Actually, Barry had one more thing he wanted to discuss, but he planned to wait until they were seated at the table.
Claire and Ethan walked to the university gates, where they found not only Barry, but Lawler as well.
