Chapter 1610

Lawler was Barry’s student, so his presence wasn’t surprising at all.

“Our team is pretty big, and we can’t all leave our posts, so my mentor and I came up first,” Lawler explained proactively.

They were just the vanguard. They definitely wouldn’t be the only ones from the team attending the conference.

The entire team had been honored with an invitation. During the presentation portion, everyone would get their moment to shine.

Whoever was responsible for a specific section would present it on stage.

For the introverts who dreaded public speaking, they could just mingle and answer questions privately.

It wasn’t mandatory, but Barry had fought to ensure everyone got a chance.

“Welcome to Cabinda,” Claire replied, not quite sure what else to say.

Ethan was a bit stiff around his father, but he chatted effortlessly with Lawler, seeing him as a senior peer.

Barry and Claire’s conversation consisted of rapid Q&A. Barry was deeply concerned about her, but the details of her kidnapping were highly classified.

So, she couldn’t give him much.

Sensing she was holding back, Barry tactfully dropped the subject.

They grabbed lunch at a restaurant near the university.

Afterward, Barry planned to take Lawler to visit some old friends.

Barry was usually swamped with work, so any trip to Cabinda was a rare chance to network and reconnect.

At the end of the day, he was a practical man.

Aside from his medical expertise, he couldn’t offer his son much help in other areas.

Since Ethan was studying at The Cabinda University, Barry wanted to ensure his son had connections if he chose to build his career here.

He needed to maintain his professional relationships.

Don’t assume Barry was just a doctor who was clueless about social etiquette.

Okay, he wasn’t great at it, but his wife definitely was—she had even picked out and packed the gifts for him.

Claire and Ethan had no idea that their lunch outing had been entirely witnessed by Macy Wade and her two friends.

These three were always lurking on the front lines of campus gossip.

They had spotted Ethan and Claire walking together near the university gates.

Originally, Priscilla had been walking out of the lecture hall with them as a trio.

But after Claire and Ethan both answered phone calls, Priscilla had gone her separate way.

Seeing Claire and Ethan walk off together ignited a nasty knot of jealousy in Macy’s chest.

Watching them bypass the dining hall

It was the end of the month, and their allowances were running dangerously low.

way higher than theirs, which nally dragged their budget’s down.

They had agreed to stick to the

Otherwise, Tabitha and Lily would go broke.

So when Macy suddenly suggested eating out, neither of them wanted to agree.

They simply couldn’t afford it.

“Macy, we…”

Before they could finish, Macy quickly added, “My treat!”

“Sounds perfect!” they chimed in unison. They were practical, after all.

“Let’s go.” Macy internally rolled her eyes, but she needed them right now.

A small favor here and there was enough to buy their loyalty, and it was a price she was willing to pay.

They bumped into Claire and Ethan near the gates.

Tabitha and Lily eagerly pointed them out. “Macy, look! Ethan is with Claire.”
