Chapter 1658

“Starlight Jewelry,” Claire recalled the name, finding the situation amusing.

It was a classic, well-established brand with chain stores all over the country.

Lawler suddenly had an idea. “Do you have any plans after class this afternoon?” “Don’t tell me you want me to go jewelry shopping with you?”

It wasn’t that she minded, but she was genuinely curious. Was this old bachelor finally showing interest in romance?

Lawler was notoriously more oblivious to dating than even Dane used to be.

“Yeah, I want to buy a gift for someone, but I’m just a clueless guy. I have no idea how to pick anything out.”

“Your bracelet is beautiful, so your taste is definitely better than mine.”

Claire was immediately intrigued. “Sure, but you have to tell me who it’s for.”

Lawler hesitated for a second. “A junior colleague of mine. She just got back from overseas.”

“Her birthday is coming up, and since she just returned to the country, I thought I’d get her a gift.”

“I really don’t understand the kind of things you girls like.”

Lawler gave her a pleading look. “Please help me out, Dr. Claire!”

Claire laughed. “No problem!”

The two of them were whispering when Barry overheard them.

“I want to go too!” Barry was the last person anyone expected to be interested in an outing like this.

Claire hadn’t anticipated him inviting himself along at all.

Lawler, however, understood his mentor perfectly. “Mrs. Monroe’s birthday is coming up soon. Are you planning to buy a gift for your wife, Professor?”

Barry smiled and nodded. “Your mentor’s wife is always complaining that I’m unromantic. I figured I’d get her a gift early this year and make her happy.”

“Whatever you get her, she’ll definitely love it because it’s from you.”

Lawler meant it. Trixie Monroe was a woman who rarely demanded material things. The couple had their child quite late in life, which had drawn a lot of mockery from outsiders.

Back in the day, there were endless nasty rumors claiming she was infertile.

For people of their generation, finally having a child after more than a decade of marriage was incredibly difficult.

Yet, Trixie had never let the vicious gossip get to her. She lived life on her own terms, which was rare and admirable.

“That’s exactly why I want to give her a real surprise.”

This upcoming date wasn’t just his wife’s birthday; it was also their wedding anniversary.

By the time class ended, their shopping group had unexpectedly multipled. Dr Terrance had heard about their trip to the jewelry store and decided to tag along as well.

“I haven’t paid much attention to this kind of stuff over the years, but I imagine any woman would be happy to receive a gift.”

“We might not be able to afford the ultra-expensive pieces, but we can definitely manage the affordable ones, right?”

“Let’s go. I’m coming with you.”

Because he was going, two of his top students wanted to go as well.

Eventually, other visiting doctors from out of town heard about the plan and decided they wanted in.

Some wanted to buy gifts for their wives, others for their daughters. By the time they left, there was a massive group of over a dozen men.

When Claire led the procession into Starlight Jewelry, Logan happened to be there. Seeing Claire, Logan immediately rushed over to greet her.

But when he saw the small army of older men trailing behind her, he half-wondered if she was in some kind of trouble.

“Claire, who are all these people?” What was going on?

“These are doctors visiting Cabinda for a medical conference. They wanted to buy gifts for their wives. They saw the bracelet I was wearing today complimented it, and decided to tag along.”

“They don’t really know how to pick out jewelry, so could you assign a couple of reliable staff members to help them?”

Claire placed heavy emphasis on the

word because she knew jewelry stores loved pushing flashy, overpriced items onto clueless men

These senior doctors had trusted her to come along so she could help them avoid getting ripped off.

She definitely wasn’t going to let them get scammed.
