Chapter 1659

“You got it, leave it to me!”
Logan called the store manager over and gave him strict instructions to pass on to the sales staff.
Hearing that these were VIPs brought in by the boss’s friend, the manager knew they had to be treated with the utmost respect!
Truth be told, the purchasing power of these middle-aged men was nothing to sneeze at.
While most of them had wives who kept a tight grip on the family finances, they still had their hospital bonuses and personal nest eggs.
As long as they were willing to part with the cash, spending a few thousand dollars was well within their means.
Most of them stuck to the moderately priced items, though.
Anything over five thousand dollars was generally out of the question.
Claire kept a close eye on things, checking a necklace here, offering an opinion on a pair of earrings there.
By the time everyone finished their shopping, it was nearly seven-thirty.
“Pick something out for yourself, Claire. It’s on me.” Barry had finished picking out
his wife’s gift and suddenly remembered the young girl who had helped them.
She had done him a massive favor, and it was only right for an elder to gift something to the younger generation.
“There’s no need, Barry. You know I can’t wear expensive jewelry at school anyway.”
“I’m only wearing this bracelet because I thought it was pretty.”
“To anyone who doesn’t know jewelry, it just looks like cheap crystal,” Claire said bluntly.
She had no intention of adding more expensive accessories to her daily wardrobe.
“She’s right. If you hadn’t mentioned it, I would have assumed it was just glass or crystal,” one of Dr. Terrance’s students chimed in.
“So I really don’t need any of this. If I can’t wear it, it’s just going to sit at home collecting dust.”
“We don’t need to stand on ceremony with each other, right?”
Claire was incredibly persuasive, smoothly shutting down Barry’s offer in just a few sentences.
Barry thought about it and agreed that gifting her expensive jewelry might not be appropriate anyway.
He decided he would just have his wife pick out a more fitting gift for Claire later. Once everyone paid for their items, it was already pushing eight o’clock.
“What are we eating tonight?” Dr. Terrance was the first to complain about being hungry.
Everyone had been so caught up in shopping that they hadn’t even thought about dinner.
Now that he brought it up, they all realized their stomachs were rumbling.
“Why don’t we head over to the food street?” Claire suggested.
There was a very popular night market food street just a short walk away.
It was always packed in the evenings.
These elite medical professionals rarely had the free time to wander around places like that, and. diets were usually incredibly stric and healthy.
Going to a food street, grabbing a bubble tea, and eating a massive handful of
grilled skewers sounded like a fun change of pace.
“What kind of good food is at a food
street? It’s all junk food.” One of the
doctors stood with his hands behind
his back,
king deeply
disapproving.
However, the others thought the young girl’s idea sounded pretty good.
“I’ve been to Cabinda a few times, but I’ve never actually walked down a food street.”
“I’m curious to see what kind of local snacks they have here!”
“Yeah, me too. We always eat fancy meals; it wouldn’t hurt to enjoy some street food for once.”
The younger doctors were even more excited.
Let’s go!
Time to eat!
Before long, every single one of the distinguished senior doctors was holding a cup of bubble tea.
They had even gone to the stall with the longest line on the street.
Claire ordered everything online so they just had to wait for their number to be
called.
With over a dozen people
had a different flavor. The
expressions on their faces after
taking the first sip were less
Barry, for instance, thought his was way too sweet.
Claire had explicitly ordered it at half-sweetness, which meant Barry truly hated
sugar.
Dr. Terrance, on the other hand, took one sip and dramatically exclaimed, “Delicious!”
“What does it matter if it tastes good? It’s completely unhealthy,” grumbled the
doctor who had initially opposed the food street.
His name was Randall, and he was known for being a bit of a contrarian among the group.
