Chapter 1682
[ 591 words ]
“I couldn’t do it either,” Dane said, turning his head. His eyes held nothing but Claire.
Just waiting for Claire to graduate from college before marrying her was already an agonizing exercise in self-restraint.
Claire shifted uncomfortably under his intense gaze. “Ahem, you’d better keep your eyes on the road.”
Otherwise, if they got into a car crash and some paparazzi snapped a photo of it, they’d be trending online for all the wrong reasons.
Claire didn’t return to campus. Instead, she had Dane drive her to Ewan Harding’s place.
“He hasn’t had his treatment yet this week, and I happen to have a little free time right now.”
Claire had been incredibly busy lately. With Dane accompanying her today, she had originally hoped to enjoy a nice, proper lunch with him.
But she was just too swamped!
Claire gave Dane a sheepish, apologetic smile.
“It’s fine. Once you’re done with his treatment, we’ll go grab a bite.”
Dane really didn’t mind.
He hadn’t scheduled anything else for today anyway. His only agenda was being with her.
“Oh, good!” Claire beamed, her guilt melting away instantly.
Dane tapped her nose playfully. “Did you do that on purpose?”
Claire grinned. “I was just worried about holding up the big boss from his work.”
Dane shook his head, amused. “You’re not holding up anything.”
Claire called Ewan Harding to confirm he was home before they headed over.
“You don’t mind an extra guest, do you? Dane drove me over today.”
“We were actually on our way to grab lunch when I remembered we still needed to do your session.”
Ewan caught her drift immediately.
“My apologies. I’m holding up your date. Why don’t I treat you both to lunch today?”
Naturally, he wasn’t going to turn Dane away. Aside from the fact that Dane was incredibly powerful and an idol to many young professionals, it was basic manners not to shut out a guest.
He was no longer the hopeless, despairing Ewan Harding from before.
He firmly believed he would walk
again, and he was endlessly grateful
to Claire for giving him a secoxet
lease on life content
“Is your personal chef any good?” Claire wasn’t being picky; she was just genuinely curious.
Ewan wasn’t a food snob, but since he was playing host, he didn’t have to insist on eating at home.
“I know a restaurant with excellent food.”
“No need to treat us. Just text me the address,” Claire replied bluntly.
Ewan was speechless. Playing it like that, huh?
Can’t I even crash your lunch?
“Haha, just kidding. We’re almost there,” Claire quickly reassured him.
Just kidding?
He strongly felt she wasn’t joking in the slightest.
“I’ll have someone open the gates.”
Claire explained, “After your acupuncture session, you’ll need to rest. It’s actually perfect for an afternoon nap.”
“So, having lunch with us really wouldn’t be ideal for you.”
The realization dawned on Ewan. “Fair enough. I’ll just send you the address.”
He wasn’t about to force himself into being a massive third wheel anyway. Claire worked efficiently, wrapping up the session at Ewan’s place in just an hour. By the time they arrived at the restaurant, it was almost one in the afternoon. The lunch rush had just cleared out, so they didn’t even have to wait for a table.
Claire and Dane ordered a few dishes off the menu, and the food lived up to the hype.
After they ate, Dane dropped her back off at the university before returning to his corporate headquarters.
Because Claire had cracked that
flash drive, the big shot who supposedly wanted to retaliate
against her was likely too swamped with their own messes to make a move. For now, she was safe.
However, as long as that wretched syndicate from Sundara remained
be
operational, Staire wolyet
our of danger.
