Chapter 1743

“Ahem, I’ve just had a lot on my plate lately,” Claire deflected.
In her defense, it wasn’t just her who forgot-Mary hadn’t exactly remembered her grand-niece either!
But throwing Mary under the bus felt wrong, so she took the hit.
“I was planning to invite you over the weekend since she’s staying in Cabinda for a while!”
Claire flawlessly spun a lie to keep the peace.
Priscilla couldn’t be bothered to argue. “I’ll accept your excuse for now, but I am definitely coming with you for lunch.”
“Where is she staying? At your apartment?”
Priscilla had already made up her mind: she was going to use her great-aunt for private tutoring.
Wasn’t that infinitely better than studying alone in the library?
“Yeah. Do you want to head over and keep her company?” Claire suggested, noticing her eagerness.
Priscilla agreed without a second thought.
“I’ll just walk out with you right now.”
But Claire explained she couldn’t leave just yet.
“Alright, I’ll go find her myself. You do your thing,” Priscilla said, not asking any more questions.
After she left, Claire went to meet Yorick.
They had agreed to meet at a coffee shop just off-campus.
The ambiance was nice, and the prices were surprisingly reasonable.
Claire had no intention of ripping him off. She ordered a simple glass of lemonade, skipping the coffee entirely.
“Claire, you don’t need to save my money. Order whatever you want!”
Ordering just a lemonade made him feel like he was being stingy.
Yorick firmly believed you had to spend money to make money.
He was usually very generous with Yolande, constantly buying her milk tea and snacks.
Didn’t all girls love that stuff?
Even though Yolande refused every time and told him to stop, he kept doing it.
He thought he was an expert on women-when they said no, they actually meant yes!
Yorick was too arrogant to realize that Yolande had never taken a single sip of the drinks he bought.
She was a dancer; she had to maintain her figure. Why would she gulp down sugary milk tea?
Even if she did want some, it would be low-sugar.
But every time Yorick ordered, he asked for full sugar.
Yolande had corrected him once, but when he kept doing it, she gave up.
The fact that she didn’t throw it in the trash right in front of him was already showing him mercy.
“Yorick, I’m heading home to eat with my family right after this, so lemonade is fine.” Yorick clearly didn’t listen.
He ordered a coffee for her anyway, along with a spread of pastries and desserts. The bill easily came to over forty dollars.
Forty dollars was a decent chunk of change for a student.
But Yorick took freelance gigs and knew how to charm girls into paying for him, so
he didn’t care about the cost.
As for Claire, she cared even less.
Forty, four hundred, or four thousand-it made zero difference to her.
Ever since Padgett had transferred
her
Mother’s inheritance to her, the
money in her account was just an endlessly long string of numbers.
Still, Claire didn’t take a single bite of the food.
She cut straight to the chase. “So, what did you need to talk to me about?”
