Chapter 1787
[ 653 words ]
“Are you jealous?”
Finnian asked Steele.
Steele simply let out a loud scoff.
Whenever he and Finnian went on a mission together, women only ever stared at Finnian, treating Steele like some rugged lumberjack. How could he not be jealous?
He could be thoughtful too! He had even sewn up a tear in Finnian’s pants in the middle of the night once!
Was there a better, more domestic-wait, no-more frugal and reliable man out there?
“I’m not jealous. My mom already said she’s setting me up on blind dates when I go home for the holidays to find me a wife!”
While Steele envied guys who naturally attracted women, he knew he didn’t have the looks for it, so arranged dates were a much safer bet for him.
Besides, while his massive frame might seem intimidating here in the city, back in his hometown, it wasn’t considered weird at all.
After all, he was a man raised in the rugged countryside.
Next door, Claire heard Yara leave and headed back to the dining table with Rory and Jace.
“Hurry up and eat,” Claire reminded them.
Rory and Jace quickly picked up their forks; the food was going to get cold if they waited any longer.
“Honestly, with cooking skills like Finnian’s, even I’m tempted to make a move on him.” Rory patted her stomach contentedly after finishing her meal.
She genuinely believed Finnian’s culinary talent was top-tier.
Jace shot her an exasperated look. “Give it up. One look and you can tell Finnian isn’t into your type.”
“If you could actually win him over, I wouldn’t mind,” Claire offered her full support. It wasn’t every day you found a bodyguard who could cook this phenomenally. “However, if you two actually started dating, Finnian would probably be reassigned back to base and they’d send a replacement.”
The agency definitely wouldn’t allow two bodyguards protecting the same target to date each other.
There was always the fear of compromising the protection detail. For example, if both the VIP and your girlfriend were in danger, who would you save first?
Logically, the VIP came first, but emotionally?
“Never mind then.” Rory had only been tempted for a split second before instantly dropping the idea.
If he got reassigned, she wouldn’t get to eat his food anymore. What was the point of having a man then?
Men would only slow down the speed at which she drew her blade!
After dinner, the three of them sat in the living room playing video games.
Usually, it was just Rory and Jace playing, but now it was a three-player session.
Thankfully, the TV screen was massive, making the split-screen completely manageable.
After one round, Claire voluntarily tapped out.
She needed a nap. Once she woke up, she had to head to campus for afternoon classes.
Rory and Jace both thought Claire’s academic life looked incredibly exhausting. As soon as she went back to her room to sleep, they immediately muted the TV.
Later that afternoon, as Claire
walked out of the campus gates
k wet
after class, she spotted. the girl with
the massive lump on her forehead
from the day before.
The girl had been waiting by the gate and immediately sprinted toward Claire in excitement.
Perhaps the previous day’s painful lesson hadn’t been enough, because she was actually riding her skateboard again.
Sensing the skateboarder hurtling toward her, Claire swiftly dodged, her reflexes even sharper than the day before.
Her sudden movement instantly put Rory and Jace—who were seamlessly blending into the crowd-on high alert.
They hadn’t been there yesterday,
but if
let Claire get hit while they
bet be
many on duty, it would be a
failure on their part
Not that Claire had actually been hit the day before, either.
This time, the skateboard girl had calculated her speed carefully. Even crashed, it wouldn’t have been a severe impact.
However, someone in the crowd, worried she might mess up again, decided to orchestrate a tiny ‘accident’ for her.
Her skateboard unexpectedly encountered a stray longan seed.
Things got instantly awkward.
While she didn’t crash into a door this time, she wiped out hard on the pavement, completely eating dirt.
She planted face-first into the concrete.
