The Billionaire’s True Heiress From Fake Jewel to Real Crown Chapter 1789

Chapter 1789

[ 678 words ]

“I…”

Valerie felt a wave of embarrassment wash over her.

“If I say I didn’t do it on purpose, and that it’s just because I haven’t fully mastered the skateboard yet, are you going to lecture me even harder?”

Claire merely gave her a flat look, the answer entirely self-evident.

Valerie shifted awkwardly. “I really didn’t mean to. I just refused to accept defeat.”

If other people could ride perfectly fine, why couldn’t she?

Valerie had been plagued by bizarre, unlucky accidents since she was a kid. She had wanted to learn how to skateboard for years, but her family had strictly forbidden it.

Once she got to university, the more her family told her not to do something, the more she wanted to do it.

After all, things couldn’t possibly get any worse.

That was Valerie’s logic, but she hadn’t anticipated that her terrible luck wouldn’t just

mess up her own life-it would drag innocent bystanders down with her.

Claire highly suspected that Valerie’s bad luck was precisely because of her stubborn refusal to listen to reason.

The more people told her no, the harder she pushed back. She was just entirely too headstrong.

That kind of attitude easily led to disasters that dragged down everyone nearby.

“I’m sorry. Please let me buy you dinner to properly apologize.”

Valerie bowed deeply to Claire, moving so fast Claire couldn’t even stop her.

With the girl going to such lengths, what else could Claire really say?

It wasn’t like Claire was the one walking around with a massive lump on her head. “There’s really no need for dinner.”

“I’m not just inviting you. I also want to invite Norris and Professor Warner.”

“I was worried that if I went by myself, they’d reject me. I heard you’re quite close with Norris…”

Valerie looked incredibly sheepish.

“Please promise me you’ll come. I am genuinely so grateful. If it weren’t for you guys, I might have actually died.”

“Or… is it because I’m so unlucky that you don’t like me?”

Valerie’s eyes turned red as she asked the question.

“I’ve been a walking disaster since I was little, so I don’t really have any good friends…”

She only had a few fair-weather friends who hung around purely for her money. The idea of treating them to dinner had actually come from her older cousin.

If her cousin hadn’t suggested it, Valerie probably would have just bought them expensive gifts to say thank you.

But her cousin had explained that

proper etiquette didn’t mean. throwing expensive gifts at people;

sharing a meal was how you actually built a connection

Hearing that Claire was an exceptional student, her cousin had strongly encouraged her to try and befriend her.

Valerie genuinely admired Claire’s personality anyway and desperately wanted to be good friends with her.

“If I don’t agree, what are you going to do?” Claire asked, looking at Valerie with a sense of helpless resignation.

“I’ll just keep asking you until you say yes.”

Valerie answered with total honesty.

Claire could already feel the sheer, unyielding stubbornness radiating off the girl.

She had no doubt Valerie was telling the truth.

“Fine, I agree. We’ll have dinner together this Friday night.” That was tomorrow evening.

Claire specifically picked that time on purpose.

If Valerie was busy, it would be the perfect excuse to drop the whole thing.

Unfortunately, her plan didn’t work.

Valerie agreed instantly.

“Great, then wait for my good news! I’m going to go track down Norris and Professor Warner to invite them right now.”

Claire thought it was highly unlikely. Why would a notoriously aloof professor like

Norris casually agree to a dinner invitation from a freshman?

Then again, with someone like Valerie, you never really knew.

The girl seemed incredibly persistent.

“Alright.” Claire asked her out of sheer curiosity, “Since you’ve been this unlucky since you were a kid,

how did you even manage to test The Cabinda University?

Shouldn’t someone with terrible luck be more prone to failing major exams?

Valerie blinked. “Because I worked ridiculously hard!”

To get into The Cabinda University, she had quite literally given it her blood, sweat, and tears. She studied relentlessly, day and night, even keeping her entrance exam prep materials in the family bathroom.

Dane’s background check on Valerie came through very quickly. Claire received his call right after parting ways with the girl.
