Chapter 1835
[ 566 words ]
Ewan gathered his courage. “Yolande, I don’t want you going on a blind date with a divorced man.”
Yolande blinked. “I don’t want to either.”
“So let me help you, okay?”
It was hard for Yolande to refuse when he put it like that. But she genuinely didn’t want to drag him into her mess.
“My mom is completely unreasonable, you shouldn’t…”
“I like you! I want to do this!” Ewan interrupted.
Listening from the sidelines, Claire almost face-palmed. Did these two forget she was standing right there?
Yolande was stunned. She had suspected Ewan might have feelings for her, but she hadn’t expected him to blurt it out so openly.
“I…” Yolande opened and closed her mouth, at a loss for words.
Ewan could see her hesitation. As long as she didn’t flat-out reject him, it meant he still had a chance. That alone gave him a thrill of hope.
“Yolande, you don’t have to give me an answer right now. Just consider this the start of me pursuing you.”
“I’ll go home with you for now to explain the situation. It’s just a temporary fix.”
“As long as we can get past your mother for now, even if you decide you don’t like me later, we can just announce that we broke up.”
“Your mom seems impossible to deal with. If you don’t have a boyfriend, she might actually push until you’re forced to marry that guy.”
“Whether it’s out of my feelings for you or just because we’re old classmates, I want you to end up with someone you actually like, not someone you’re forced to meet.”
Claire wanted to applaud him. Who said men were terrible at communicating? Look at this guy! He normally wasn’t a smooth talker, but when it counted, he knew exactly how to fight for what he wanted.
Without realizing it, a proud smile crept onto Claire’s face.
Yolande appreciated his sincerity, but she still wanted to decline. Bringing Ewan into this would only cause more problems.
“I think Yolande is right. Dragging you into this isn’t a smart move,” Claire chimed in. “But, if Tiffany insists on this blind date, Yolande can definitely use you as a shield.”
Ewan understood. The two of them were on the same page.
“Can I at least drop her off?” Ewan asked, turning to Claire. He had noticed she was
the more decisive one. If Claire agreed, Yolande would likely follow suit.
It wasn’t that Claire was more decisive; it was just that Yolande trusted her judgment.
Claire found his tactic amusing. “You’ll have to ask her.”
This time, Yolande was going back to handle internal family drama, so it wasn’t appropriate for Claire to tag along But she was worried about her Having Ewan there would give Claire some peace of mind,
Eventually, Ewan had his driver pull up, and he escorted Yolande home.
Meanwhile, Claire drove off to meet her three friends. She hadn’t planned on going to the live showy but Shirley and Sophia were dying to see t Since they were going, Claire and Len tagged along to keep them company.
The venue was packed. When they met up, they noticed the crowd was already armed with glowing fan signs. A few enthusiastic fans even asked who they were supporting. Seeing they didn’t have any merch, the fans tried to pitch their favorite idols.
Claire had never experienced anything like this. Just as she was about to explain
that they weren’t into idols, Shirley proudly whipped out her own fan gear from her
bag.
