Chapter 1838
[ 547 words ]
Thinking about that man left a bad taste in her mouth.
“Yorick just reminds me of how York used to act.”
“But Yorick is a bit different. He looks like he’s using false confidence to mask his insecurities.”
Shirley didn’t say more. Either way, she would never be a fan of Yorick.
But since York came up, she couldn’t resist spilling the latest gossip.
“You probably don’t know, but York and Cindy are still sneaking around.”
“I honestly admire them. It’s like they’re star-crossed lovers. Maybe after overcoming eighty-one trials, they’ll finally end up together.”
Since Shirley had gotten over York, she viewed the situation much more objectively. For instance, she now felt bad for the girl he was actually engaged to.
However, that girl was incredibly shrewd. She had a tight grip on the Byron family’s finances, making sure York and Cindy couldn’t openly associate. York’s legitimate money was entirely managed by his fiancée.
Who knew what he was secretly funneling to Cindy? Even though Cindy was struggling, she was clearly still clinging to him.
Maybe she was hoping that once the Byron family recovered, York would divorce his wife and marry her.
Who would have thought that after her mother cheated to have her, and after being mentored by Fallon, the ultimate homewrecker, Cindy would dedicate her life to being the other woman?
“His fiancée is no pushover. She only picked York because he’s good-looking and decently smart. She’s just using him for his genes,” Shirley whispered, clearly having dug up some exclusive dirt.
“Her plan is to marry him, have a kid, and have that kid inherit both her family’s fortune and the Byron family’s assets. They’re signing a brutal prenup. If the Byrons agree, they get married. If not, they have to pay back all her family’s investments with interest. The Byrons can’t afford that, so they have to swallow their pride.”
“And she didn’t even agree to give the kid the Byron last name.”
“So, the Byron family essentially sold him off.”
York was keeping all of this a secret from Cindy. She had no idea that York was destined to be a glorified employee for his wealthy wife.
For a high-end corporate slave to still mess around on the side… he really had some
nerve.
Shirley fully expected his fiancée to kick him to the curb eventually.
Claire agreed completely.
“How’s college treating you? Are you dating anyone?” Sophia asked as she and Len walked arm-in-arm.
Shirley suddenly realized that Claire had a brilliant fiancé, Sophia and Len were constantly showing off their, relationship and she was the only single one left.
“Of course I am! I date four guys a month. A different one serves me every week!”
It was an obvious lie. The three of them laughed, but no one bought it.
As for Shirley? It wasn’t that she was entirely focused on her studies, but she was busy running her side hustles.
She was completely obsessed with making money and had zero interest in romance. Plus, after seeing how well Sophia and Len worked together, and how exceptional Claire’s fiancé was, ordinary college boys just didn’t catch her eye anymore.
So, for now, Shirley remained happily single.
“You guys have no idea. The guys at my school are completely I’m planning to visit Cabinda
en I want to see if the guys here are as top-tier as everyone says.”
Shirley laughed at her own joke.
