Chapter 1858
[ 544 words ]
Honoria wanted to learn more about her cousin’s life, so on their way out, she asked, “Valerie, is that Macy girl a friend of yours?”
“How come I’ve never heard you mention her before?”
Honoria had only been back in the country for a few years, and Valerie had lived at school during high school, only coming home on weekends.
It was perfectly normal that she didn’t know about Valerie’s high school life.
“You never paid attention to my high school life before, so it’s normal you don’t know her.”
“She isn’t my friend; she was my rival.”
“Though, I clearly won the college entrance exams, or else I wouldn’t be at the same school as Claire!”
Valerie was practically radiating smugness, completely ignoring how anyone else felt about it.
Macy?
“I wasn’t exactly miles behind you, was I?”
Macy’s scores had been virtually identical to Honoria’s.
They had simply chosen different paths.
Valerie lifted her chin. “But you didn’t get into The Cabinda University, which means you don’t get to be Claire’s schoolmate.”
Oh, so that was the metric for winning now?
“Are you and Claire even in the same major? The same class?” Macy asked. If she could handle her crazy fans, she could certainly handle Valerie.
Valerie’s smug smile froze. “No.”
“So you probably don’t even see her that much anyway, right?”
“In that case, being at the same school doesn’t really matter.”
Macy’s tone was breezy and dismissive.
This infuriated Valerie. “How is that the same? We’re on the same campus; we can grab meals together anytime.”
“You’re different. You have to take a whole car ride to visit us, or we have to take one to visit you!” Valerie declared triumphantly.
“It’s only four stops away. That’s
hardly a distance. It probably take t
you longer just to walk across own campus

Macy genuinely believed that.
Unable to win the argument, Valerie huffed, “But we can just meet at the campus gates With a car ride there are way too many unpredictable factors.”
Seeing that this bickering was

“It seems like you two actually get along pretty well.”
“But I need to head home now. Finals are coming up, and I have to study.”
Since Claire put it so bluntly, Macy and Valerie had no choice but to stop arguing.
“Bye, Claire! Let’s definitely hang out next time,” Macy said first.
Valerie quickly followed Claire to her car.
As she climbed in, she threw a provocative smirk at Macy.
Macy felt a sudden urge to hit someone, but decided it wasn’t worth it if that someone was Valerie.
Seeing her cousin getting into Claire’s car, Honoria’s expression darkened.
She rolled down her window. “Valerie, I’ll drive you back. Don’t inconvenience Claire.”
Valerie immediately shook her head. “No, I’m going with Claire. We’re heading the same way.”
“The same way?” Honoria caught on. “Are you going back to campus?”
“Yeah, I’m heading to campus, not home.”
Unlike most people, Valerie didn’t really like going home.
Her dad was always busy with work, leaving only her and the housekeeper at home.
The housekeeper took good care of her, but she wasn’t her mother.
Valerie always felt a distance with the housekeepers, making it hard to form a real connection.
The main issue was that she had gone through countless housekeepers growing up, and had learned not to get attached.
To her, the house was cold and empty. She was much happier at school.
