Chapter 1880

“He won’t lie to you.”
Seraphina also remembered that during high school, Owen had never once broken a promise to her.
“Okay.”
She could wait.
Owen decisively got into the car.
Norris sat in the passenger seat, studying his brother’s profile. “Was that crying girl your high school crush?”
Sitting in the back, Claire had her ears perked up, listening intently.
“Yeah.” Owen had gone through a very abnormal phase during high school.
As the older brother, Norris had been deeply concerned for him.
But every time he asked, Owen would just brush it off and say it was nothing.
It was clearly a case of being trapped by unrequited love, and the completely inexperienced Norris had no idea how to console him.
All he could do was force Owen to channel his energy into other things.
After graduating high school, Owen’s mood had plummeted even further. He even started engaging in extreme sports to vent his frustrations—car racing, rock climbing, grueling hikes.
Fortunately, he was athletic and had good luck, so he never got seriously injured.
If something had actually happened to his brother, Norris couldn’t guarantee he wouldn’t have directed his wrath at the cause.
Seeing Seraphina today, Norris didn’t understand what made her so exceptional that she left Owen utterly devastated back then.
“Are you still in love with her?”
His brother couldn’t possibly be that pathetic, could he?
Claire, eavesdropping in the back, shared Norris’s exact thoughts.
No way, no way, could they just throw this brother away?
If he was seriously still in love with Seraphina, how were they supposed to split their shared company?
Owen noticed the heavy silence in the car. It seemed more than one person was waiting for his answer.
“How is that possible? I’m not an idiot, and I’m definitely not a fool like Xavier!” Owen shot back, making sure to drag Xavier down with him.
Norris shot his brother a sideways glance. “I’d say you two are pretty much the exact same.”
Both of them had been completely played by women; neither was any better than the other.
“I think Owen is doing slightly better than Xavier.” Claire disagreed with Norris.
“Just
scamat Xavier; he’s clearly been
scammed terribly. Owen’s sunk
costs are nowhere near what Xavier,

Owen was speechless. “…Gee, thanks.”
What a brilliant analysis. Next time, keep it to yourself.
Norris chuckled from the passenger seat and finally dropped the subject of Seraphina.
After dropping Claire off, Norris took her home, while Owen headed straight back to the hot pot restaurant.
He didn’t rush to find Jocelyn. Instead, he sat down in a quiet corner to chat with Xavier.
“So, what are you planning to do about Seraphina?” Xavier asked, curious.
Owen rolled his eyes at him. “Why don’t you talk about what you’re planning to do about Jocelyn?”
Xavier glanced over at Serena, who was sitting not too far away, listening to the live music on stage.
“What else can I do? I’ve already cut ties with her, haven’t I?”
“With my parents breathing down

When he said it, there wasn’t an ounce of resistance in his voice.
He had never been like this in the past.
Maybe he had finally realized that fighting back was pointless and had just accepted his fate.
Or perhaps, he had finally noticed Serena’s undeniable charm?
“You really are completely trapped,” Owen agreed.

me. I can afford to ignore Jocelyn I have my parents and my
fiancée keeping me in line
“But what about you and Seraphina?”
“You were so deeply in love with her. Isn’t it a shame to just give up like this?”
Xavier fully admitted that his current situation was stifling, so he refused to let Owen look too smug.
Weren’t they brothers, after all?
Didn’t that mean they had to share both the good times and the absolute misery?
