Chapter 1879
[ 608 words ]
Serena didn’t lash out at Jocelyn or Xavier like Jocelyn had hoped.
Instead, she simply crossed her arms and watched the spectacle with detached amusement.
Jocelyn was left standing there in unbearable awkwardness.
It was Claire who finally spoke up. “It doesn’t seem like Serena is misunderstanding anything. She honestly couldn’t care less.”
“Your worries are completely unnecessary, Ms. Thorne.”
Given the lovely gift Serena had just given her, Claire felt obligated to defend her at least a little.
Serena smiled. “Claire is right. Xavier is his own person. He can talk to whoever he wants.”
Jocelyn’s expression turned incredibly sour.
Standing in front of them all, she felt like an absolute clown.
“I spoke out of turn. I apologize,” Jocelyn said.
Then she cast a glance at Xavier, her eyes turning red.
Xavier instinctively started to say something but snapped his mouth shut the second
he caught Serena’s deeply meaningful gaze.
Failing to elicit any sympathy from Xavier, she shifted her focus to Owen.
This man was completely cold-hearted too. Didn’t he used to be in love with Seraphina?
Why wasn’t he even looking at her sister now?
Jocelyn even caught a glimpse of mockery in Owen’s eyes. Was he mocking her? Jocelyn’s chest tightened with frustration.
If Seraphina hadn’t been in the picture, Owen probably would have fallen for her instead.
And now look at him, actually mocking her!
She instinctively glanced at Seraphina and noticed her staring intensely at Owen.
Too bad his attention wasn’t on her in the slightest.
“Xavier, Serena, if there’s nothing else, we’re going to head out now.”
Claire had no desire to waste another second on Jocelyn.
Since they wanted to leave, Xavier and Serena obviously had no objections.
Xavier even stepped aside to clear the path. “If you guys want hot pot, go inside. If not, stop blocking the door.”
Jocelyn’s face burned with humiliation.
If it hadn’t been for… she never would have come crawling back to Xavier!
Xavier had never treated her like this in the past.
Had this Serena woman really managed to completely leash him?
“Seraphina, let’s go inside,” Jocelyn urged frantically, signaling her sister with her eyes.
If she didn’t speak to Owen now, when did she think she’d ever get another chance?
There was no guarantee she would run into him again after this.
After all, ever since Seraphina
returned to Cabinda, all her attempts
to contact Owen had been
completely ignored
In a moment of desperation, Seraphina reached out and grabbed Owen’s sleeve.
“Owen, can we please talk?”
Owen was generally very gentle with
women, but when it came to
Seraphina, his primary emotion was
deep frustration at her inability to stand up for herself.
Furthermore, no matter how kind his
family was, they would never
endlessly tolerate him marrying
someone who couldn’t set
had a family.
boundaries and had a family
constantly trying to bleed them dry.
If Seraphina could have developed a spine, he might have still tried to help her.
But she had given up on herself, willingly sacrificing her life for her family. What was he supposed to do?
Owen yanked his sleeve out of her grip. “I think we’ve already made things perfectly clear.”
“I…” Seraphina opened her mouth but couldn’t form a single word; all she could do was cry.
When she cried, she looked incredibly pitiful.
In the past, Owen would have been completely heartbroken.
But not anymore.
Still, he couldn’t bring himself to be totally ruthless.
“Go eat first. We can talk after you’re done.”
“I need to take my sister and the others back to campus.”
Owen had actually softened.
Jocelyn instinctively glanced at her sister.
Sure enough, was it because she and her sister were completely different types that Owen had no interest in her?
What was she supposed to do?
She touched her stomach, looked at her sister again, and quickly made a decision.
“Seraphina, since Owen said so, let’s go eat. He’ll definitely come back to find us after he drops them off.”
