Chapter 1886
[ 603 words ]
So they just assumed Owen had done something to the girl.
After all, why would anyone scream for help in broad daylight, accuse a man of assault, and tear their own clothes open?
Yes, the guard saw the aftermath.
That was why he concluded Jocelyn had been attacked.
However, Sergeant Miller was an ex-military man; he was no fool.
Hearing the suspect’s sister dismantle the logic made him realize she had a very valid point.
Mr. Churchill looked like a polished, civilized man. He wouldn’t commit such a messy, reckless act.
On the flip side, Ms. Thorne was still sobbing her eyes out, and she didn’t look like a malicious person either.
Her vulnerability was enough to stir up sympathy in any man, but exactly because of that-what if she was lying?
Back during his military deployments, Sergeant Miller had run into similar traps.
Women acting like innocent, fragile victims during a mission were often the most dangerous.
“Can we pull the security footage?” Seeing the hesitation in the room, Claire made another demand.
Since this was an upscale, luxury community, the surveillance system was guaranteed to be extensive to ensure the residents’ safety.
“The camera right outside her door is broken,” Sergeant Miller replied.
“It broke yesterday. We already scheduled a technician to come out, but they won’t be here until tomorrow.”
Whether it needed a simple repair or a full replacement was still up in the air.
“Did she know that?” Claire pointed directly at Jocelyn.
Sergeant Miller glanced at her. “I wouldn’t know.”
“She knew,” Owen interjected, his eyes locked on Jocelyn. “Before she threw her little psychotic fit, she glanced up at the camera. She knew it was dead.”
“That’s why she grabbed my hand, shoved it against her own chest, unbuttoned her shirt, and started screaming that I was attacking her.”
The two guards stood frozen in shock.
Even though Owen had already claimed she staged the whole thing, no one had believed him.
Now that he pointed out she had deliberately checked the camera before putting on her performance, the room didn’t know who to trust.
Most people naturally gravitated toward believing the crying, weaker party.
Add to that Owen’s somewhat arrogant, unapologetic demeanor, and it was easy to paint him as the bad guy.
But what if he really was the victim?
“Ms. Thorne, are you framing my brother because you’re obsessed with him?”
Claire stared directly into Jocelyn’s eyes.
Jocelyn’s gaze flickered. “I’m not. I didn’t. He’s the one who attacked me. Why is he turning around and slandering me?”
“Claire, I know he’s your brother, but you’re a woman too. I thought you out of all people would understand.”
“Understand what?” Claire locked onto Jocelyn and took a slow, deliberate step toward her.
Jocelyn instinctively shrank back.
She nearly lost her footing, but Claire
caught her. Ms.

he, if you have nothing to hide,”
why do you look so terrified?”
“I assumed you were in such a rush to blackmail my brother because you wanted
him to play house with you.”
Owen scoffed. “Even if this blows up into a massive scandal, I would never marry her.”
As if suddenly remembering
something, Claire pulled out her
phone and did a quick search. Just
as she suspected, the
rumors had
already hit the internet.
“Look here. The internet is already buzzing about some wealthy heir forcing himself on a civilian woman. in broad daylight. A lot of people are out there demanding justice for you, Ms. Thome.”
If Claire hadn’t checked her phone, they wouldn’t have known the story was already going viral.
Jocelyn refused to admit it. “I didn’t! I never wanted this. If it really blew up online,
how am I supposed to live with the shame?”
“Your family is so powerful. Are you trying to drive me to suicide?”
Jocelyn’s crying grew even more pitiful.
