Chapter 1900
The Thorne family didn’t have much money, but they certainly weren’t lacking in nosy relatives.
Fielding call after call from aunts and uncles demanding the truth, Alistair felt his pride being publicly shredded to pieces.
Normally, all of their parents’ rage was exclusively reserved for their eldest daughter. But today, a sliver of genuine hatred was directed at their youngest.
“Mom, just stop asking!”
Jocelyn clutched her stomach. She didn’t even want this parasite inside her.
She had tried to play a brilliant game, but the entire thing had violently blown up in her face.
“You didn’t actually do what the internet is saying, did you? You’re not actually some old man’s mistress?”
Beatrice had spent the entire morning aggressively defending her daughter, lying through her teeth to deflect the probing relatives.
But seeing Jocelyn aggressively dodging the question, Beatrice’s own suspicions were finally taking root.
“Of course not! I would never!”
Jocelyn vehemently denied it.
Beatrice spun around and aimed her crosshairs directly at Seraphina. “Seraphina, your sister is going through a massive crisis. Why didn’t you step in and guide her?”
“If you had just paid more attention to her on a daily basis—”
Here we go again!
This family was a suffocating, inescapable nightmare.
Jocelyn actively chose to spread her legs for a sugar daddy. What exactly was Seraphina supposed to do about it?
Chain her to a radiator?
If Seraphina so much as raised her voice at Jocelyn, their parents would have a meltdown over how poorly she was treating her sister. Restraining her was entirely out of the question.
“Enough!”
Seraphina suddenly shot to her feet.
Her violent interruption completely shocked the room, and every eye snapped toward her.
“Seraphina, are you trying to start a rebellion in this house?” Alistair slammed his hand brutally onto the coffee table.
“Is your mother wrong?”
“If you had actually kept an eye on your sister, how could she possibly have done something this disgraceful?”
“She’s utterly humiliated herself, and you think you’re immune to the shame?”
“Are you happy now that our entire family is a public laughingstock?”
Predictably, her parents instantly formed a united front to crucify her.
Even though Seraphina knew exactly how this was going to play out, the crushing disappointment still knocked the wind out of her.
It felt as though a massive, gaping hole had been torn through her chest, and freezing wind was howling straight through it.
“Am I the one who dragged this family through the mud, or is it Jocelyn’s psychotic, selfish actions that did it?”
“Every single time she makes a
catastrophic mistake, I’m the one forced to carry the cross. Sometimes genuinely wonder ift Was switched at birth, because she is clearly the only child you two actually love!”
Seraphina’s sudden, explosive rebellion left her parents paralyzed in shock.
“Seraphina, how could you say something so horrible? Haven’t Mom and Dad given you enough?”
“Are you lashing out at them, or do you just hate me?”
Jocelyn’s perfectly timed victim act immediately snapped their parents out of their daze.
“I hate every single one of you!”
“If I hadn’t practically begged Owen today, you would be sitting in a jail cell right
now.”
“Jocelyn, I don’t owe you a damn thing anymore.”
Jocelyn’s face twitched.
She absolutely despised this sudden spark of defiance in Seraphina.
Seraphina existed to be sacrificed for her benefit.
Why would their parents create two identical lives if not for one to serve the other?
Seraphina was born to be her shadow.
“You stole the life that was
supposed to be mine, and the facet
that your own life is a miserable trainwrecks entirely your own fault.
“Seraphina, you-” Jocelyn was completely blindsided by the sudden, vicious attack.
“Shut up!” Seraphina whipped her
head back to her parents. “The reason she’s a manipulative,
sociopathic liar is entirely
becaus
of you two!”

“You are catastrophic failures as parents. You spent my entire life crushing my spirit just to feed her ego.”
“If you had actually disciplined her for once in her life, she wouldn’t have turned out like this.”
When had Alistair ever been pointed at and lectured by his own daughter?
Blinded by sheer rage, he threw his arm back and viciously slapped his eldest daughter across the face.
“Shut your mouth! You dare blame us?”
“We bled ourselves dry raising you, and this is how you repay us? You ungrateful, heartless bitch!”
