Chapter 1053
She never expected that even though Noreen had hit rock bottom, there were still so many powerful people willing to catch her and act as her safety net.
Why?
Jasmine simply couldn’t figure it out.
Aside from a slight gap in their educational backgrounds, she and Noreen had practically started at the exact same starting line.
Both were raised in single-parent households.
Both started out as administrative assistants.
The only reason she had targeted Carman Holt back then was because she was copying Noreen.
Wasn’t there a rumor circulating in their social circles that Noreen only managed to hook Seth Harcourt because she secretly slipped him a drug?
So, she used the same underhanded tactic to secure Carman.
But she had better luck than Noreen. It only took one try for her to get pregnant with Carman’s child, using the baby to force her way into the family.
Unlike Noreen, who had spent seven years in obscurity by Seth’s side, only to be kicked to the curb in the end.
While she seethed with this imbalance, more and more guests continued to arrive.
Almost every single one was a heavyweight.
They were either political figures or major corporate players.
She suddenly understood why those two wealthy wives had made up excuses to ditch Crystal’s party.
If she hadn’t completely destroyed her relationship with Noreen, she would have done the exact same thing.
Instead of being stuck out here, pacing anxiously at the door like an outsider.
Just as she was wracking her brain trying to figure out a way to sneak into Noreen’s party, two familiar figures entered her line of sight.
Seeing Carman Holt and Mina Holt, Jasmine’s expression froze completely.
The Holt siblings didn’t notice Jasmine hiding behind the Roman pillar. Their eyes were locked on the ballroom entrance.
Mina was chatting with Carman, her tone full of relief. “Thank God we made it!”
“When the flight was delayed, I genuinely thought I was going to miss Noreen’s party. I was panicking so hard I called you for a rescue!”
“Good thing you were on a business trip in the neighboring city and could drive over to get me. Otherwise, we really would have missed it!”
Carman shared her relief. “Yeah, I’m glad we made it on time.”
While Carman was signing the guestbook, Mina asked, “Hey, Mom said you’ve been on a business trip for two months just to hide from Jasmine. Is that true?”
Carman’s tone was flat. “Don’t worry about adult matters. Just focus on your studies at school.”
Mina pouted in dissatisfaction. “I’m not a kid anymore, you don’t have to hide it from me. Mom already told me you two are going through the divorce process.”
Carman clearly didn’t want to discuss his failing marriage.
But Mina couldn’t help but voice her regrets. “If she hadn’t shamelessly inserted herself into your life back then, you and Noreen might have actually worked out.”
“Let the past stay in the past. Don’t bring it up again.”
“I only dare say this in front of you. Whenever I’m around her, I have to walk on eggshells, terrified of making her mad. Ever since she gave birth to Winnie, our whole family has been forced to live under her thumb. You have no idea how suffocating it’s been for me.”
“I can handle it because I’m the younger sister. I’ll just swallow my pride. But Mom is getting older, and her health isn’t great. Seeing her
here around and speak so
have to
carefully to her breaks my heart.”
“So I fully support this divorce!”
Behind the Roman pillar, Jasmine’s face turned livid. She gripped the stone so tightly her knuckles ached, fighting the urge to storm out and confront the siblings.
Carman cut Mina off. “Alright, let’s head inside.”
Mina frowned, then hurried after him. “Seriously, hurry up and finalize the divorce
with Jasmine. Since Noreen is single right now, you might still have a chance.”
