Chapter 1213
She had never been content to just stay in her lane.
Everyone simply tolerated it out of respect for Felix, never calling her out on it.
As long as her little schemes didn’t cause a scene, they all just turned a blind eye.
But right now, Felix’s mind was entirely consumed by Claire. He couldn’t spare a single thought for Madeline.
He was desperately trying to figure out his next move.
To divorce or not to divorce-both felt like impossible hurdles.
She had said their pacing was different now.
One wanted to keep moving forward, while the other wanted to stop and rest.
If they really had to part ways at this intersection…
Couldn’t he just run ahead and wait for her at the next corner?
If she wanted a fresh start.
Then they would have a completely clean slate!
At that thought, the hope in Felix’s eyes reignited.
Outside the hospital room.
Madeline gripped the shopping bag in her hands so tightly her knuckles cracked, her expression twisted in fury.
She had never expected to overhear a conversation like that.
And she absolutely could not believe that Felix had actually fallen for Claire!
It was unacceptable!
Why?
Why did Claire get to have everything?
Claire had always been beneath her since they were kids. She was supposed to stay beneath her for the rest of her life!
He wanted to send her abroad?
Over her dead body!
…
Four days later, Claire received a call from Felix.
He was being discharged today.
“I’ll come meet you at the hospital,” Claire offered immediately.
“No need. I have to swing by The Gables to grab my documents anyway. Let’s just meet there.”
The Gables was the home they had shared.
Claire paused for a moment before replying, “Alright.”
After hanging up, she did a quick touch-up in the mirror and headed out.
Felix beat her there.
When she walked in, he was just coming down the stairs.
He looked like he had lost a bit more weight, and his hair had grown out longer.
But he had styled it, slicking it neatly back.
Seeing her arrive, he spoke first. “I haven’t had breakfast yet. Could you make me a
bowl of Noodle Soup with Bone Broth?”
Claire looked at him in surprise. “Now?”
“We have time,” he said softly.
It was still early.
And boiling a bowl of Noodle Soup with Bone Broth wouldn’t take long.
So she agreed, dropping her purse on the counter and heading into the kitchen.
Felix pulled out a chair at the dining table, his gaze locked entirely on her.
The sound of running water soon echoed from the kitchen…
Sunlight spilled through the blinds, casting a mosaic of light and shadow across the tiled floor.
The warm light softened Claire’s profile. She had her head slightly bowed, stirring the noodles as th rising steam blurred her delicate features.
It looked exactly like that morning he had woken up with a terrible hangover.
But everything had changed since then.
The noodles were ready.
She placed the bowl in front of him.
Steam billowed from the white porcelain.
Felix picked up his silverware, twirling the noodles. The rising heat made his eyes burn.
He didn’t rush. He ate incredibly slowly.
He chewed every bite meticulously, as if trying to engrave the taste directly into his soul.
Because he knew the moment he
finished this broth and cleared the bowl, the woman who kept the kitchen lights on for him would no longer be his.
As he finished the very last sip of broth, he finally spoke, staring blankly at the rim of the empty bowl.
The noodles you make they net
really good.”
It was something he had never told her before.
He knew it was far too late to say it now.
But he had to say it anyway.
A faint smile touched Claire’s lips. “I’ve always been a great cook.”
Before Felix could say another word, she stood up. “Let’s go. It’s time to head to city hall.”
Felix nodded. “Okay.”
