Chapter 1215
“Maybe it just wasn’t meant to be,” her colleague mused, taking a sip of coffee. Then a thought struck her. “Wait, aren’t you an only child? What brother?”
“He’s a guy I met while visiting the orphanage on behalf of city hall,” Susan explained. “He volunteers there regularly. He’s a great guy, really handsome, but he just doesn’t care about his personal life. He’s in his thirties and doesn’t even have a girlfriend.”
Her colleague nodded absentmindedly and went back to work.
It wasn’t until right before closing time that Susan finally got a call back.
She picked up and immediately started scolding him. “Oh, so you finally remembered how to use a phone?”
Wilbur laughed in apology. “I was genuinely swamped with work. The second I finished, I called you back. Why were you trying to reach me so frantically? Is something wrong?”
Susan wasn’t actually furious, just disappointed. She sighed heavily. “I just met this incredible girl and wanted to introduce you. I even stalled her divorce proceedings just to buy you time to get here.”
Wilbur chuckled.
Susan was notoriously overenthusiastic.
They had met at the orphanage.
Susan was there on official city hall business, and Wilbur was doing his regular volunteer shifts.
They ended up crossing paths a few times and became fast friends.
Susan, being the warm-hearted woman she was, figured a man who volunteered his free time had to be a good guy. She practically adopted him as a younger brother, frequently inviting him over for dinner.
When she found out he was single, she made it her mission to set him up on blind dates.
Now she was apparently targeting freshly divorced women.
Wilbur rubbed his temples, exhausted by her constant matchmaking. “Susan, please stop worrying about it. I’m really not interested in dating right now.”
Hearing that only made Susan more anxious. “You’re thirty-two! If you don’t start looking now, you’re going to die alone!”
“I’ve introduced you to so many great women, and you haven’t even agreed to meet a single one! This can’t go on!”
She lowered her voice to a whisper. “Are you… gay?”
Wilbur was speechless.
He sighed, thoroughly exasperated. “No, I’m not. Just… please stop trying to set me up.”
“Well, if you’re not gay, then you must already have someone you like.”
That was the only logical conclusion Susan could draw.
Any normal man would want a partner.
Ine
Wilbur didn’t confirm it, but he didn’t deny it either. He just deflected. “Alright, I have to get back to work.
I’ll take on.”
I’ll take you and your husband out
for dinner

“Fine.”
Susan was bummed, but she couldn’t force the issue if Wilbur wasn’t willing to try.
The problem was clearly on his end.
After hanging up, Wilbur stood up, grabbed his jacket, and walked out of his office.
His driver asked for the destination.
Wilbur thought for a moment. “Take me to Ground Zero.”
He needed a drink.
…
Inside a VIP booth.
A group of people happily raised their glasses, cheering for Claire.
They were celebrating her newfound freedom.
Nobody was more thrilled than Sandra, Claire’s manager.
“Divorce is fantastic! Now that
single, there’s a whole forest
there waiting for you. You can have as much fun as you want content .net
Claire rubbed her temples. “Is that really something a manager should be encouraging?”
Sandra let out a loud, drunken hiccup. “Obviously, you have to be discreet about it. No public scandals.”
“Okay, cut off. You’re wasted.” Claire
took the glass from her hand and
turned to her assistant, instructing
her to arrange cars to take everyone home.
She stepped out to settle the bill at the front desk.
It was nearly midnight, and the club’s dance floor was packed and chaotic.
Maybe it was the alcohol, but the deafening bass was giving her a headache.
She quickened her pace, weaving through the crowded floor to get to the bar. Suddenly, someone clamped a hand around her wrist.
