Chapter 1177
“I’m all rested.”
Lex didn’t stop scrubbing, mop still in hand.
“I’m so sorry, Claire. I made a mess of your place last night.”
Claire shook her head. “It’s fine. You don’t need to do that. The housekeeper is coming over later to clean.”
She walked over and gently wrestled the mop out of Lex’s grip.
“Come on, go wash up. We’re heading out for breakfast.”
Lex froze for a second, processing the fact that Claire had a housekeeper, and blurted out, “How much does a housekeeper charge for a place like this?”
Without hesitation, Claire replied, “I’m not exactly sure. My aunt arranged her for me. She only comes once a week, but I can call her if I ever need extra tidying up.”
“It’s two hundred dollars per visit.”
“That much?” Lex was stunned.
Claire gave a helpless smile. The fee covered everything from wiping down windows to scrubbing cabinets, so it wasn’t actually that outrageous.
The job easily took a solid two to three hours.
Her housekeeper was also quite thoughtful, often folding any clothes Claire had left out.
Since the kitchen rarely got used, it saved the woman a lot of effort.
She even watered Claire’s potted plants.
All in all, a good housekeeper offered incredible peace of mind.
“You get what you pay for.” The same housekeeper also cleaned Norris’s apartment.
Because she was trustworthy and reliable, the family preferred to keep her employed.
Taking on these sporadic cleaning jobs actually earned her a better income than working as a full-time live-in maid.
The woman’s son was studying in Cabinda, and her daughter was already working. She planned to grind for a few more years to buy her son a house before saving for her own retirement.
That was what she had told Claire, anyway.
A job was a job, as long as it built a nest egg.
“What if I picked up a job like that?” Lex figured that cleaning a house was the easiest thing in the world.
“You want to work as a cleaner?”
Claire had suggested Lex start anet
cleaning business eventually, b she hadn’t meant for her to start scrubbing floors right now.
“Cleaning takes hours, and you need that time for your studies,” Claire reminded
her.
Lex didn’t mind. “Didn’t you say I
should build an empire in the domestic service industry? Treed to understand it from the ground up.”
“Once I get enough experience, I’ll start my own agency.” Lex already had a clear roadmap in her head.
Hearing this, Claire nodded. “Makes sense. Give it a try, then.”

Rich people were always looking for that extra touch of prestige, after all.
Claire was confident someone would want to hire Lex.
However, she didn’t offer to hire Lex to clean her own apartment.
And Lex hadn’t expected her to.
They both understood the boundaries of their friendship.
Skylar didn’t wake up until the two of them returned with breakfast.
Waking up to a massive spread of food put her in a state of absolute bliss.
“You guys have way too much energy. I just want to lay in Claire’s soft bed all day.”
Claire watched her yawn while chewing. “Then stay here and sleep. I have a lunch date.”
“Huh?” Skylar was instantly wide awake.
“If you’re heading out, it’s weird for me to just sleep at your place. But wait, who are you meeting?”
“Are you secretly dating someone behind our backs?”
Claire sighed in amusement. “I’m meeting Meiko Fujii for lunch.”
She had promised Meiko a medical consultation last week.
But she had been so busy that it got pushed to this weekend.
Besides, Meiko’s condition wasn’t exactly an emergency.
