Chapter 1198
But since she and Wyatt had been dating since freshman year and were now on the verge of graduation and marriage, the fact that he dared to betray her meant she absolutely wasn’t going to let him off easy!
When Wyatt was a freshman, he had been relatively simple and sincere.
Over time, though, Wendy had grown increasingly dissatisfied with him.
She had only put on this public display because she refused to let her youth go to waste.
It was a way to teach Wyatt a lesson and bring her college years to a definitive close.
Who would have guessed it would come with an unexpected bonus?
Wyatt’s cousin was mature and steady. Although he was on the quiet side, he was a man of action who actually got things done.
She genuinely felt that a life with him would be far more secure.
Having secured a solid backup plan, Wendy was in a fantastic mood.
As for whatever happened to Wyatt, it was no longer her problem.
Wendy had cemented her reputation as a ruthless figure among her peers, but she couldn’t care less.
So what if she was ruthless?
As long as she was protecting her own interests, she would take the
misunderstandings in stride without a word of complaint.
Claire, on the other hand, thought Wendy handled the situation perfectly.
She had demanded justice for herself and taught the jerk a lesson in the process.
“Wendy is seriously impressive,” Skye remarked as they chatted.
The two of them had stumbled upon the scene and stayed to watch the drama unfold.
Wendy’s confrontation hadn’t actually caused that massive of a stir on its own.
But the fallout was catastrophic for Wyatt and Melanie.
After this, nobody would ever dare date a scumbag like Wyatt.
As for Melanie, while her reputation took a hit, the overall impact on her daily life was minimal.
She was simply too good at manipulating interpersonal relationships.
Even if a few guys snapped out of their trance due to Walter’s public scolding, they wouldn’t actually do anything to hurt her.
At most, they just kept their distance.
Claire nodded. “There aren’t many girls as decisive as Wendy.”
“She’s definitely going to have a great life ahead of her. As for Wyatt, I wouldn’t bet on it.”
If Walter’s physical reprimand could actually knock some sense into him, there might be a glimmer of hope.
The fear was that even a beating wouldn’t fix him.
“A jerk like Wyatt deserves to stay single forever.”
“If he really ended up with a girl from Sundara, Walter would probably disown him for real.”
“It’s just pure greed. He had such an amazing girlfriend, and he still let his eyes wander. Disgusting!”
Claire and Skye spent a good few minutes trashing the two-timer.
Claire thought that would be the end of the whole ordeal, but surprisingly, she ran into Walter again shortly after.
And of all places, it was in Walden’s hospital room.
“Walter, I never thought we’d see each other again.”
Walden grasped his old subordinate’s hand, his voice thick with emotion.
Walter’s eyes welled up with tears. “I thought I’d never get the chance to see you again either, General Hawk.”

Walter was a deeply sentimental man.
Walden nodded slowly. “I know the feeling.”
“It’s just a shame those days are gone forever.”

It was only Walter’s arrival that had managed to lift his spirits.

In Walden’s eyes, even though Walter had lost an eye, he could have easily transitioned to an administrative role.
He had an incredibly decorated military record; it was a tragic waste for him to just leave.
But Walter had been stubborn.
“No, I couldn’t be a burden to you, and I couldn’t take up the military’s resources and cause trouble for the country.”
Perhaps this was simply the quiet dignity of the old war heroes.
