Chapter 1237

[ 678 words ]

Ewan was still wrestling with his thoughts.

His grandfather, however, couldn’t wait any longer and came looking for him.

Ewan rarely kept in touch with his family these days.

Ever since the accident years ago, he had shut down completely.

He also rejected all forms of affection and concern from his relatives.

He couldn’t even remember the last time he had seen his grandfather. “Why are you here?”

Ewan was still sporting a scruffy, unkempt beard and a disheveled appearance.

But he didn’t refuse to open the door for the old man.

“You kid…” His grandfather didn’t even know what to say upon seeing the state he was in.

“Look at this mess. How are you ever going to find a wife looking like that?”

The moment the words left his mouth, he regretted them.

He had slipped up.

His grandson absolutely despised it when the family tried to set him up, and one wrong move would have him throwing people out again.

The old man was truly proud of Ewan; when so many others had been too cowardly to step up and save someone, Ewan had thrown himself into danger without a

second thought.

He was just an eighteen-year-old kid back then, still holding onto his youth, having just gotten into college, yet he hadn’t hesitated to risk his life for someone else.

But the resulting injuries had nearly cost the boy his legs, leaving his grandfather heartbroken.

He was the youngest grandson, the absolute treasure of their family!

“Forget it. No one is forcing you to settle down. Did you meet Claire?”

“Well? Isn’t her medical expertise incredible?”

Ewan had no idea how to respond.

“No. I didn’t see any of her expertise.”

If he hadn’t called Silas to look into Claire’s background, he would have assumed this was all a setup.

He would have suspected his grandfather and Claire were working together to con him.

Using a medical consultation as a front for a blind date.

Wait, that couldn’t be right.

After all, Claire had actually chewed him out earlier, accusing him of being obsessed with blind dates.

“You didn’t see it? I heard she took you to the hospital for a full exam.”

The old man had kept tabs on things, purely out of worry for his grandson.

It wasn’t that he distrusted Claire; it was just that Ewan’s temper was notoriously difficult to manage.

He was afraid Claire wouldn’t be able to handle him.

“You’re certainly well-informed.” Though annoyed that his

grandfather was spying on him

Ewan knew Claire wasn’t the one

who had blabbed.

His grandfather brushed the comment off with a laugh and asked if Claire had given him a treatment plan.

Ewan answered with feigned indifference. “She told me to wait three months.”

The old man’s eyes lit up. “She didn’t say it was impossible? She just

wait three months. That means bet

there’s a chance!”

They had waited three years. What was three months?

“That girl really does know her stuff!”

“I wonder what young girls are into these days. I need to get her a proper thank-you

gift.”

The old man mumbled to himself while Ewan remained noncommittal.

“She looks younger than I do. Do you honestly believe she can pull this off?”

No matter how much people hyped her up, Ewan still had a hard time believing Claire was that capable.

His grandfather raised an eyebrow. “Don’t be so quick to doubt. I did some digging on her.”

Ewan actually played along this time. “And what did you find?”

“She was involved in treating the

head of the Hawk family. That’s how

she got connected with them in the first place

“Which Hawk?” Ewan didn’t immediately put it together.

He had spent the last three years completely isolated, shutting out the world.

As a result, he was horribly out of the loop.

He had no idea that Van had been severely injured and had nearly lost his life.

“Van, of course. He and Tilda just tied the knot a couple of days ago. Did you forget?”

Seeing the blank look on his grandson’s face, the old man felt another pang of sadness.

No, he was the one who had forgotten!

He had forgotten that his grandson had been hiding from society for three years.

“You forgot about Tilda?” The old man sounded frustrated, disappointed that Ewan had let himself slip so far away.
