Chapter 1240

[ 627 words ]

“I don’t need the money.” The traditional ingredients she used were exceptionally

high quality, but they weren’t outrageously expensive.

Many of them were exclusively sourced from The James Village.

She had just called home and asked her uncle Pearce to ship them to Cabinda.

With some logistical help from her other relatives, of course.

Since she was buying from The James Village, she got them for a fraction of the market price.

Honestly, The James Village was sitting on a goldmine of natural resources, but they barely capitalized on it.

They had an abundance of rare herbs, yet they rarely sold them to outsiders.

She had no idea why.

It seemed to be the village matriarch’s decision.

Most of the villagers didn’t even realize how valuable the plants on the mountain were.

The matriarch knew, but she didn’t push for commercial sales because she simply didn’t see the need.

Nobody in the village was hurting for cash. They preferred their peaceful, quiet lives. Plus, everyone received a hefty dividend at the end of every year anyway.

They had more money than they knew what to do with.

There were a couple of slightly poorer families, but that was only because they had refused to listen to the village elders in the past.

Defying the elders meant losing your annual dividend.

It was that simple!

Randall could tell Claire wasn’t short on cash, either.

Every single piece of equipment in the Luminate lab was state-of-the-art.

Her backers had poured millions into the facility, giving her complete freedom to experiment.

Randall was actually a bit jealous. Getting access to a lab wasn’t hard for him, but securing grants for research was a nightmare.

He was always scraping by on tight budgets, while this young woman had a seemingly bottomless bank account.

One look at Claire, and it was obvious she had lived a very comfortable life. He was officially envious!

Claire blew through her exam. The moment she finished, she rushed straight back to the lab.

She had set alarms for all her remaining finals and had Priscilla Hastings call her before each one, terrified she might sleep through them.

Halfway through one of her exams, she bumped into her counselor, Zane Harrison. Zane had barely seen her all week.

He finally managed to catch her right as she walked out of a classroom.

“Claire, what’s been going on with you lately? Are you really that busy?”

She looked exhausted, with dark circles under her eyes, and she was impossible to track down on campus.

Had something happened?

She was the medical school’s star prodigy. Nobody wanted to see her burn out.

She was the pride and joy of the faculty.

Claire shook her head, then nodded, leaving Zane completely confused.

“I’ve just been a little swamped lately, Mr. Harrison.”

Zane assumed she was just cramming for finals. “Your grades are already excellent. Even if you’ve been busy and missed some study time, you’re not going to fail

Claire couldn’t help but cut him off. “Mr. Harrison, I’m not busy studying for finals.”

“I keep up with my coursework. The exams aren’t that hard for me.”

Zane blinked.

Did she even hear what she was saying?

But thinking about it, he knew Claire was just stating a fact.

“Then what are you busy with?”

Finals really were a breeze for geniuses like her.

Zane didn’t see the need to lecture her about it.

“I’m working on an experiment.”

She didn’t elaborate, but the casual statement was enough to shock him.

“Which professor’s lab did you get into?” Why hadn’t he been informed?

Claire shook her head. “It’s not affiliated with the school. It’s a private lab.” Zane was utterly speechless. This girl was moving leagues faster than anyone else her age.

“You’re still so young. There’s no

need to rush. It’s good to lay a solid foundation first… but I suppose can’t really argue with your progress.”
