Chapter 1266

[ 628 words ]

Skye didn’t believe it, sitting in the passenger seat and watching Claire drive.

She possessed an effortless, unbridled confidence.

Her driving skills were wildly impressive.

Even in heavy traffic, Claire navigated through the endless line of cars with maximum efficiency.

A woman steering with one hand was undeniably hot!

Skye couldn’t resist pulling out her phone and snapping a barrage of photos of Claire.

Then, she switched to recording a video.

“Claire, you look so different when you’re behind the wheel.”

“You look amazing!”

It wasn’t until they arrived at the airport thirty-five minutes later that Skye finally seemed to remember how to breathe.

She couldn’t help but praise her friend. “With your skills, you could win a professional street race, couldn’t you?”

“Claire, you’re incredible. I think I’m falling in love with you.”

Skye didn’t know how else to express it, but Claire’s driving was genuinely captivating.

Claire didn’t think much of it. She simply helped pull Skye’s luggage from the trunk and urged her to hurry inside.

Skye felt even more swoon-worthy boyfriend energy radiating from her.

“I’m going to draw you into my comic!” Skye finally found her inspiration.

Buying gifts had cost her thousands of dollars. If she didn’t use the winter break to start a new comic, she wasn’t sure she’d have enough money left to get by.

Claire didn’t care if she became a comic character; she just hurried Skye inside so her friend wouldn’t miss her flight.

Once Skye was inside, she immediately dumped all the photos and videos she had taken into their group chat.

Zara was still fast asleep, and Lex was already at work.

Only Claire saw the endless stream of notifications popping up in the chat.

The photos Skye took of her were truly gorgeous.

Claire tapped save.

She didn’t post them to Facebook, as she hated updating her social media and loathed letting people pry into her private life.

Surprisingly, Dane called her right then.

He mentioned he had spotted her at the airport.

“Why are you at the airport?”

“Are you heading back to Apex?”

Dane genuinely thought Claire was suddenly flying back home.

He had previously asked her to drop by the manor to give his grandfather another acupuncture session.

It was supposed to be a routine wellness check.

Claire had agreed to it, so if she was suddenly leaving, something must have gone wrong.

Dane was simply worried about her.

Claire explained, “No, I was just dropping a friend off.”

Learning she wasn’t leaving, Dane let out a breath of relief.

“My grandfather is waiting for you at home.”

Dane told Claire to wait for a moment while he walked over from the other terminal.

“Why are you at the airport?” Claire had assumed he was on a business trip.

Dane explained that he had an emergency trip yesterday afternoon and had just flown back first thing this morning.

Sometimes work was so demanding that he had no other choice.

Claire understood. With the holidays approaching, Dane’s schedule would be packed.

She was busy too, so she hadn’t even thought about trying to squeeze in a proper date.

Once the holidays hit, she would be heading back to Apex, leaving them with even less time together.

“You must be exhausted, then?”

Claire noticed the faint dark circles under Dane’s eyes, guessing he had barely slept

He was used to it.

But Claire was worried. “Do you have a ride waiting? Or do you want me to drop you

off?”

Dane, who had already arranged for his driver to pick him up, didn’t miss a beat.

“Sure.”

He quietly texted his driver, telling him to head back without him.

Then, he tossed his luggage into Claire’s trunk and slid into the passenger seat.

Earlier, to beat the clock, Claire had driven like a demon.

Now, however, she intentionally kept her speed low.

Because Dane had fallen completely asleep beside her.
