Chapter 1453

[ 517 words ]

“Officers, I swear I don’t know anything. You have to believe me.”

Sloane pleaded as she was led to the police car. She tried to maintain her composure, but her fingers were twisted tightly together.

She never imagined Meiko’s situation was this severe.

No wonder her father had forbidden her from even asking.

But why hadn’t he just told her the truth beforehand?

If she had known, she would never have gone around asking about Meiko.

And Claire, too—if she had warned her earlier that Meiko was dangerous, she never would have…

But it was too late to blame anyone now. She was already on her way to the station.

“We’ll determine what you know after our investigation.”

The officer was completely unfazed by her protests.

“I really don’t know anything! We were just friends. At most, we grabbed dinner and went shopping.”

Sloane confessed everything, laying it out without holding back.

“I heard from a junior that Meiko was looking for someone to treat her teacher.”

“I don’t know who her teacher is. She tried to get my grandfather to help, which is probably why she cozied up to me in the first place.”

“But my grandfather is busy, and I can’t make decisions for him, so I politely turned her down.”

“Later, I heard she took her teacher to Apex to find that junior.”

In her eagerness to come clean, Sloane didn’t hesitate to throw Claire under the bus.

Subconsciously, she was just trying to protect herself, shifting the focus without

malice.

However, the police were already fully briefed on Claire’s involvement, so when Sloane tried to redirect their attention to Claire, they completely ignored it.

Claire’s statement had been finalized ages ago, thanks to Captain Silas Carl. Claire had been far more comprehensive than Sloane’s frantic rambling.

“Did Meiko leave anything with you? Any gifts?”

“She gave me some gifts, but they were just normal things. I gave her gifts in return.”

Sloane quickly listed every item she had received.

Not taking any chances, the police took Sloane back to her dorm and her house to inspect every single gift.

“The

evidence for now. Once we confi they’re safe and the case is

ee will hold onto these as

they’ll be returned.”

The officers were actually being quite reasonable, but Sloane wanted nothing to do with those items.

“Officers, please, I don’t want them anymore. Once you’re done checking them, just throw them in the trash,” she urged.

Who knew what Meiko might have hidden in them.

Even with the police inspecting them, she didn’t want them anywhere near her.

She was terrified of her own terrible judgment in friends.

After this, she felt like she never wanted to make a friend again!

Since Sloane appeared clean and was Dr Sterling Senior’s granddaughter a few influential votees spoke up for her, and she was released once cleared.

But upon returning to school, she realized how vicious rumors could be.

She used to be the center of attention, surrounded by endless praise.

With numerous admirers and followers.

Whether it was her own charm or her family’s prestige, everything had always been smooth sailing.

Not anymore.

She could feel the strange, judging looks. Everywhere she went, people pointed and whispered.

When she had previously let her

admirers spread rumors about

up on the receiving end.
