Chapter 1514
[ 562 words ]
He hadn’t expected them to be coordinating with the military on official business.
He didn’t know what this plant did, but if it warranted such a massive mobilization, it had to be vital.
Everyone’s eyes locked onto Zamu.
“Zamu, did you see it in The Aila Highlands?”
“Can you remember the exact location?”
“Can you take us there right now?”
“This herb is absolutely critical to us, and we are completely out of time!”
Claire and Silas were both practically vibrating with urgency.
Dane, however, was solely focused on Claire’s safety.
If Zamu could lead them straight to the Dreamweed, it would be infinitely better than wandering around blindly.
Everyone waited with bated breath.
Zamu scratched his head, looking a bit uneasy under the intense scrutiny.
“I’m sorry, I can’t pinpoint the exact location right now, but I remember it was very deep in the mountains. I almost didn’t make it out alive that time. I ran into a pack of wolves.”
“And I got bit by a venomous snake.”
“If my family didn’t have a traditional remedy for snakebites passed down through generations, I would have died out there.”
“Even though I cured the venom, my health was permanently damaged.”
“That’s why I usually refuse to guide during the winter.”
“I only take a few jobs the rest of the year.”
“Just enough to put food on the table.”
Claire frowned.
Judging by Zamu’s story, the Dreamweed was undoubtedly in The Aila Highlands.
But the path was perilous. Dragging a massive group in there was no guarantee they’d even find it.
Dane was the first to speak up. “Since Zamu can identify the plant, Claire doesn’t need to go in.”
“You still haven’t fully recovered, and the environment is too harsh. You might not survive the trek.”
Silas quickly agreed. “He’s right, Claire. This is department business anyway. Commander Miller and I will go.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll bring the Dreamweed back as fast as humanly possible.”
Miller nodded in agreement.
“Exactly. You two doctors stay behind. I’ll go in with Hawk. Having you along will only slow us down.”
Seeing the offended looks on their faces, Miller suddenly felt a bit sheepish.
“Uh, look, I’m a blunt guy, but I’m just stating the facts.”
“Neither of you looks like you belong in The Aila Highlands.”
Claire shook her head firmly. “I have to go. I’m the only one who knows how to harvest it.”
“And we need to extract the antidote immediately once we find it. Elias
and have to go, and so do the patients!”
Initially, Claire hadn’t planned on bringing the poisoned men.
But now that she knew the journey was long, dangerous, and entirely unpredictable, she realized that leaving them behind might cause them to miss the critical treatment window.
Elias was equally determined. “I won’t slow you down. If something happens, leave me behind.”
Every
sacrifidoctor harbored a spirit of
sacrifice. When given this

opportunity, Elias hadn’t considered backing out for a second.
They had made it this far; he wasn’t turning back!
The chance to personally harvest a legendary, near-extinct plant? He’d be a fool to pass that up.
It was a story he could brag about for the rest of his life!
Of course, he wasn’t doing it for bragging rights. He wanted the practical experience.
Just as his grandfather had said, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“Why is every single one of you so damn stubborn?”
Commander Miller glared at them, his face darkening with anger.
“If anything happens to you out there, my men are not taking responsibility!”
He couldn’t stomach the thought of innocent people dying on his watch!
