Chapter 1516
[ 612 words ]
“I just didn’t expect to need it so soon.”
Commander Miller’s eyes gleamed as he listened. He tugged at Silas’s sleeve. “Hawk, do me a favor.”
Silas didn’t even need to ask to know what his old friend was thinking.
“You want some?” Silas chuckled.
Truth be told, he wanted some too. Claire always seemed to have incredible items on hand.
“Claire, is it possible to mass-produce this bug spray?”
“I heard that the company you started with your cousin manufactures some pretty high-end products.”
“If you could mass-produce this spray, it would definitely be a huge hit.”
Claire, however, was entirely focused on her medical studies.
“Mass production probably isn’t feasible right now. The ingredients aren’t cheap, and the process isn’t exactly simple.”
“Some of the herbs are also incredibly hard to find.”
“I only make two or three bottles a year just to have on hand.”
Claire truly had no intention of handing the formula over to Luminate for retail. It wasn’t something the average person needed.
Most people could buy a decent bottle of bug spray at the drugstore for a few bucks.
Why would they spend hundreds of dollars on hers? Everyone’s money was hard- earned!
“Could we place a custom order with you, then?”
Seeing Silas hesitate, Commander Miller stepped up and asked Claire directly.
Claire didn’t turn him down. “I suppose I could, but my formula genuinely isn’t cheap to make.”
“Even if I sell it at cost, the price tag will still be high.”
She wanted to give him a heads-up so nobody would accuse her of price gouging.
With ingredients this rare, trying to turn a massive profit would make the price astronomical.
“It won’t be over a hundred and fifty dollars, will it?” Unlike Silas, who threw money around without blinking, Miller had to worry about the military budget.
If the spray was too expensive, he’d have to try and haggle her down.
“It shouldn’t be. Once I make the next batch and calculate the exact material costs,
I’ll let you know the final price.”
“But it definitely won’t be over a hundred and twenty.”
See? Under a hundred and fifty.
Miller felt a bead of sweat form. A hundred and twenty wasn’t exactly cheap either!
He didn’t say it out loud, but the thought definitely crossed his mind.
“Then I’ll thank you in advance, Dr. Claire.” Miller had no idea what her profit margin
was.
But he knew she would do her best to keep costs low while guaranteeing the quality. That was no easy feat, and Miller firmly stated he wanted to order a hundred bottles. “Don’t think a hundred bottles is a small order. Our budget is tight, so I’ll be paying for these out of my own pocket.”
“I want to show the brass that the effects aren’t exaggerated.”
“Once the higher-ups see it in action, the official orders will start pouring in.”
Miller was a man of action.
Even if the spray only cost
seventy-five dollars a bottle, a
hundred bottles would still cost him
thousands of dollars. It was a
serious jovestment.
“I understand, but making a hundred bottles will take me quite a bit of effort.”
Claire let out a soft sigh.
Silas wanted some too.
He felt a hundred bottles wouldn’t even be enough to pass around his own department.
“Claire, how about this: you just handle the manufacturing. I’ll take care of sourcing the rare herbs.”
“I’ll have my people gather everything you need so you won’t have to stress over it.”
Silas actually wanted to offer to pay for all the materials, but he worried
she might be hiding a secret formula. If he supplied everything, someone might figure out her recipe.
He didn’t want to compromise her intellectual property.
So, he offered an alternative solution.
Miller stood nearby, looking
downright envious. “Must be nice having deep pockets. I wish I could make an offer like that, but my hands are tied.”
