Chapter 1524
[ 650 words ]
Hearing this, Silas immediately jumped on the opportunity. “Done. Didn’t you partner up with Owen to launch a company recently?”
“If you’re too tied up, you can just have him handle the business side.”
Claire nodded in agreement. “You guys can negotiate with him when the time comes. Just keep in mind, a mass-produced batch won’t be quite as potent as the ones I make by hand.”
“But it should still retain about seventy to eighty percent of the efficacy.”
Silas and Miller looked slightly disappointed that it wouldn’t be identical to her custom batch, but seventy percent was still a massive upgrade for them.
“Don’t worry, I’ll negotiate with the brass. We won’t let you get shortchanged,” Silas promised, remembering that Claire wasn’t just Dane’s fiancée, but also Tilda’s close friend.
More importantly, she was the daughter of those two legendary figures!
They were supposed to be protecting her, yet she kept ending up in the line of fire. Securing this lucrative contract for her was the least they could do as compensation. “Thanks, Silas.”
Claire knew she could trust him.
Miller wanted to secure a deal too, but he didn’t have Silas’s elite family background or deep-rooted connections.
He had influence in the local Montara region, but up in Cabinda, his words carried zero weight.
Left with no other option, he clapped his buddy on the shoulder. “Man, don’t forget about me when the time comes.”
Silas swatted Miller’s heavy hand away. “Depends on how useful you are today.”
Once Claire finished patching up the last soldier, she finally had a moment to breathe.
She turned toward the stream, hoping to wash the grime off her face.
But before she could take two steps, Dane’s voice cut through the air.
“Stay away from the bank. I’ll have River fetch some water for you.”
Claire frowned in confusion, but as she followed Dane’s cold gaze toward the water, her blood froze.
The riverbank was littered with animal bones!
This wasn’t normal.
Unless there was an apex predator lurking in the shallows, there was no logical reason for a mass graveyard right at the water’s edge.
And they were just bones—not a single rotting carcass in sight!
“River, grab the water and step back. Now!” Dane ordered, his voice laced with absolute authority.
Dane’s tense tone immediately caught Silas’s attention.
“Get Elias away from the water, now!”
The moment the words left Silas’s mouth, a blood-curdling scream pierced the air.
“What the hell is that?”
Everyone sprinted toward the muddy banks.
The screaming soldier had startled Elias so badly that he stumbled backward.
Thankfully, Elias hadn’t been fast enough to step into the water yet.
“Something’s biting me! There’s something in the water!”
Before the soldier could finish his sentence, he lost his footing and plunged into the stream.
Silas and Miller exchanged a panicked look. “Get him out!”
The tactical team reacted with lightning speed, dragging the thrashing man onto the dry shore. The sight made their stomachs churn chunks of flesh had been violently torn from his calves and ankles.

The surface of the stream bubbled with crimson blood as countless razor-sharp jaws snapped frantically beneath the water.
“What the hell are those things?” Claire asked, immediately dropping to her knees to bandage the man’s shredded legs.
Miller turned his fierce gaze toward Zeke.
“Those… I think those are Mutant Piranhas.”
Zeke looked absolutely terrified. “This stream never had piranhas before! Where the hell did these monsters come from?”
Furthermore, these fish looked unnaturally vicious, bearing clear signs of mutation.
“Why would piranhas mutate?” Silas demanded, turning to the environmental expert he had brought along.
The expert

“We were just washing our faces in there a minute ago, why didn’t they attack us?”
another soldier asked in bewilderment.
“Blood,” Claire and Dane answered in unison.
The scent of fresh blood had triggered a feeding frenzy.
Zeke’s eyes widened in sudden realization. “Yes, that has to be it!”
“Whenever crossed this stream
