Chapter 1531
[ 639 words ]
“Take another look. No matter how I examine this plant, it seems completely harmless. The others didn’t eat its purple fruit, so how could they have been poisoned?”
Exactly. Why was the air thick with the toxins from the Dreamweed fruit?
That was the exact question Claire wanted to ask.
“Zeke certainly has incredible luck, managing to cure himself of the Dreamweed poison.”
Claire gave Zeke a long, probing look.
Zeke scratched his head, feigning a sheepish innocence. “I didn’t expect to get so lucky either. In my panic, I just remembered the detoxification method you mentioned earlier, Claire.”
“I didn’t know exactly how to eat the roots to cure it, so I just dug them up and ate them raw.”
Zeke casually chalked his survival up to a happy accident.
“Let me take your pulse and check your condition,” she offered.
“Eating the root raw like that wouldn’t completely neutralize the Dreamweed toxin.”
“Alright, please take a look.” Zeke extended his arm.
Claire checked his pulse and found that the primary toxin had indeed been cleared from his system.
As for any residual poison, it wouldn’t cause significant harm to his body.
Meanwhile, the rest of the team was trying to figure out how to dive to the bottom of the deep pool to search for the missing men.
Without proper diving gear, they were hesitant to plunge into the unknown depths blindly.
Silas Carl selected two of his strongest swimmers to make the dive.
However, when a full fifteen minutes passed without them surfacing, a heavy unease settled over Silas.
Jace James hesitated for a moment before looking at Claire. “Clan Successor, should I go down and take a look?”
“I’m a very strong swimmer.”
Naturally, his rigorous training had included underwater survival.
Bodyguards like Jace and Rory James were the modern equivalent of elite shadow guards sworn to protect the Clan Successor.
They were highly skilled in almost every conceivable scenario.
Seeing that Silas’s men hadn’t returned, Claire was genuinely worried about Jace’s safety.
“Let him go. He really is an exceptional swimmer. Even if he runs into trouble, he’ll be able to signal us in time.”
Silas could see the conflict in Claire’s eyes.
Though he desperately wanted to dive in himself, he knew the team needed him above ground to command the situation. Having an expert swimmer, go down was the best option.
Still, it felt inappropriate to send Claire’s personal bodyguard to act as their vanguard.
“Never mind, I’ll go down myself. I’ll leave the situation up here to Dane,” Silas decided, weighing the pros and cons.
He couldn’t risk Claire’s people, but he could risk himself.
As the captain, it was his responsibility to bear.
Claire immediately knew that sending Silas down was a terrible idea.
If something happened to him, the entire team would lose its core leader.
“Jace, I’m leaving this to you.”
“Prioritize your safety above all else. If you can’t find anything, or if you sense even
the slightest danger, come straight back up!”
Claire absolutely refused to let her people act recklessly.
“Understood,” Jace agreed without a second thought.
He was submerged for barely five minutes before he broke the surface, dragging another man with him.
It was one of the soldiers Silas had sent down earlier.
A large chunk of flesh had been torn from the man’s leg.
“There’s a monster down there,”
vet
Jace gasped as the others rushed to haul them both out of the water He was breathing heavily as he reported situation.

“And the water is toxic!”
If Jace hadn’t been such a phenomenal swimmer, he might not have made it back
up.
The moment he hit the water, severe dizziness and muscle weakness had set in.
Thankfully, Claire had given him a potent stimulant pill beforehand.
“How could the water be toxic? Who poisoned it?” Silas’s expression darkened ominously.
Jace had only managed to save one man. Did that mean the other was already dead?

The pale, injured soldier looked up, his face twisted in agony and quilt. sorry Captain, I couldn’t bring. Quinton back up with me.” .net>
