With absolute silence radiating from the military vehicle, the operatives outside were growing dangerously impatient.

“What’s the matter? I thought the Solenia military prided itself on protecting civilians.”

“All you have to do is hand over one woman, but you’re perfectly willing to let an innocent man die?”

As the operative shouted, he drove his combat boot down brutally onto the shepherd’s injured hand.

“Argh!”

The shepherd let out a blood-curdling scream.

“I’m going out there!” Hearing the civilian’s agony, Sergeant Wu couldn’t take it anymore.

Dane grabbed his shoulder. “Stepping out there right now is suicide.”

“What else can we do? I can’t just sit here and watch a civilian get executed!”

Sergeant Wu gripped his sidearm, the veins on his hand bulging with fury.

Wang was bleeding out, the shepherd was being tortured, and he was supposed to just hide in the car?

These mercenaries were after Claire. If he went out there while she was operating on Wang, he could at least buy them some time.

He might even stall long enough for backup to arrive!

“They only want Claire. You sacrificing yourself achieves absolutely nothing.”

Outside, the operative ground his boot harder into the shepherd’s hand and sneered. “Aren’t your beloved soldiers supposed to be heroes?”

“Look at them hiding while you bleed.”

The shepherd writhed in agony and screamed, “The military has a classified mission! Kill me if you want, you bastards!”

“Tough guy!” The operative sneered and casually shot the shepherd in the leg.

The shepherd shrieked in pain.

Sergeant Wu lost it!

Ignoring everyone’s protests, he kicked his door open and charged out.

“Stand down!”

“Who the hell are you people? Do you honestly think you can pull this off on Solenia soil and walk away alive?”

Knowing the operatives held a hostage, Sergeant Wu had deliberately left his

firearm behind to avoid provoking an execution.

He didn’t know what possessed him, but he had shoved his gun directly into Dane’s hands before exiting.

Dane now had the weapon leveled

out the door, the second

made a lethal move against

Sergeant Wu Dane was going to

blow their head off.

“Where is Claire? We only want the girl. You coming out here is useless.” The operative locked eyes with the sergeant.

These Solenia soldiers truly were fearless lunatics, willing to play the lone hero just to save a random shepherd.

“I don’t know any Claire. This is a classified military transport!” Sergeant Wu lied without blinking.

He didn’t care if the enemy bought it; he was going to deny it to the bitter end. Naturally, the operative didn’t believe him for a second. His intel was airtight. He immediately pressed his muzzle against the shepherd’s temple.

“We wouldn’t be here if we didn’t know for a fact she’s in that vehicle.”

“Send her out, or this man’s brains get painted all over the asphalt!”

Claire was in the middle of emergency surgery; she wasn’t going anywhere.

Rory scrambled into the driver’s seat, while Jace slid into the passenger side to act as her spotter.

Dane barked the command, ordering them to throw the heavy vehicle into reverse and ram directly into the operatives.

The operative clearly hadn’t expected the soldiers to disregard the life of their hostage so ruthlessly.

With no time to react, he threw the shepherd aside to save himself.

Dane opened fire immediately, his bullets suppressing the operative as the heavy vehicle surged backward.

The two operatives scrambled in opposite directions, forcing Dane to focus his fire on just one of them.

The other operative was instantly engaged in brutal hand-to-hand combat with Sergeant Wu.

Even unarmed, the sergeant was a lethal combatant, proving exactly why Officer Miller had deployed him as their ace.

However, the hostile backup quickly recovered and unleashed a barrage of concentrated automatic fire at the military vehicle.

They were trying to pin them down so they couldn’t extract the hostage.

Rory’s evasive driving was phenomenal, and combined with Dane’s deadly

accuracy, the operatives were forced to fall back.

The heavy vehicle skidded to a halt right next to where Sergeant Wu was brawling with the operative.

Just as a hostile car from the rear

accelerated to ram them again, Rory violently cranked the steering wheel while simultaneously whipping her nine-section steel chain out the

window.
