Chapter 1565
[ 591 words ]
“What a slippery rabbit!”
Quinton Graves adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses and laughed softly.
The operative next to him was entirely unnerved by his ability to smile in this situation.
However, Quinton’s smile was clearly laced with a dark, boiling rage born of humiliation.
“Mr. Graves, do we continue the pursuit?”
He genuinely didn’t know if they could catch them.
Quinton glanced out the window at the sheer cliffs and the violent, churning river below.
Continuing the chase in this terrain was a massive tactical error.
Claire’s backup would be arriving at any second.
“The cars in front will maintain pursuit. Tell them to ram the target. If they can force the military transport off the cliff, even better.”
“Once the vehicles collide, order our men to abandon their cars and scatter.”
Having weighed the tactical variables, Quinton issued his lethal commands.
He was effectively ordering the forward team on a suicide run.
“But… the higher-ups explicitly ordered us to capture her alive,” the operative hesitated.
It wasn’t that he was questioning Quinton’s authority.
But ramming them off a cliff guaranteed zero survivors.
Even if they hit the water, no one was surviving that drop.
Quinton acted as if he had suddenly remembered that minor detail.
“Then pursue for exactly five minutes. If you don’t have her by then, abort.” Quinton’s orders shifted with terrifying unpredictability.
The operative instantly realized Quinton had never intended to catch them in the first place.
Knowing Quinton always had a backup plan, the man didn’t question it further. Faking a relentless pursuit for exactly five minutes was easy enough.
Rory’s driving skills couldn’t match Claire’s, but her evasive maneuvering was still incredibly fluid.
Coupled with the superior specs of the military vehicle, the pursuing cars simply couldn’t close the gap.
After exactly five minutes of high-speed pursuit, Jace noticed the shift in tactics.
“Clan Successor, I think they’ve broken off.”
The second Jace spoke, the wail of police sirens pierced the air.
The blaring alarms had never sounded so beautiful.
“Backup is here!”
Sergeant Wu slumped back, releasing a massive breath of relief.
He had been terrified of failing Officer Miller and letting these VIPs die on his watch.
One was a billionaire CEO, the other a genius surgeon; losing either would be a catastrophic loss for the nation.
Right now, Sergeant Wu only wanted to report to Officer Miller that he had completed the mission.
“Since backup has arrived, Claire, could you please take a look at the shepherd?”
The shepherd had taken two bullets.
While neither hit vital organs, they were hours away from a hospital, and the sergeant feared he would bleed out.
Claire frowned. Despite Dane’s covering fire, Sergeant Wu had sustained several
nasty shrapnel wounds.
She actually wanted to treat the sergeant first.
But the shepherd’s wounds were objectively more critical.
Left with
bottle
choice, she handed a
fher coagulant powdert Brooks and River instructing them to pack the sergeant’s wounds.
She then turned her attention to extracting the bullets from the shepherd.
While the bullets hadn’t hit major arteries, severe leg trauma was incredibly dangerous.
Fortunately, the shepherd had already passed out from the excruciating pain. That made the surgery significantly easier for Claire.
As the police cruisers swarmed the area, one pulled up directly alongside their battered transport.
An officer stepped out and immediately began coordinating with the heavily bandaged Sergeant Wu.
Having received the VIP briefing
from Officer Miller, the tactical units
of
split up half continued the pursuit. the operatives, while the other half formed a protective detail for the airport transport.
“Sergeant Wu and the civilian are both severely injured. You need to get them to a hospital immediately.”
Claire sighed heavily. “Even if we rush to the airport now, we’ll miss the flight. Saving lives takes priority.”
The police officer gave Claire a long, assessing look.
