Chapter 1662
[ 616 words ]
As the two bodyguards raced toward the hospital, Claire was already miles ahead of them.
With a motorcycle cop clearing the intersections, Claire was driving at breakneck speed.
By the time she pulled into the emergency bay, she received word that the ambulance had only just arrived at the food street.
The hospital had been alerted and had a trauma team waiting at the doors.
The police also arrived at the hospital shortly after.
The patient was rushed into the operating room, leaving only Claire and Lawler waiting outside.
There had been plenty of witnesses on the street, but no civilians had dared to follow them to the hospital.
The police had split their forces; one team was at the scene taking statements. “I’m a doctor attending a medical conference here in Cabinda. My name is Lawler.”
Lawler was the first to hand his ID to the officers.
The officer inspected it, verified his identity, and handed it back.
Claire followed suit. “I’m a freshman at Cabinda Medical School, and I’m also part of the conference delegation.”
“We were having dinner at a restaurant nearby with several other doctors from the conference.”
“When we heard the gunshot, we rushed outside to see what had happened.”
“We saw the man lying in a pool of blood and immediately administered first aid.”
They both gave clear, concise answers and had easily verifiable IDs.
Their story was quickly corroborated by the officers at the scene.
Once their identities were confirmed, the officers’ demeanor became much friendlier.
“Can I ask who that man is? Why was he shot?”
Claire suspected the victim was someone important.
“We can’t disclose that at this time.” The truth was, the police didn’t know his identity either.
They were still running his prints. Furthermore, a gunshot wound in the middle of the city meant the case was highly sensitive.
It wasn’t something they could discuss with civilians.
Claire hesitated for a moment. She kept her hand in her pocket, deciding not to
hand over the USB drive just yet.
The doors to the operating room suddenly swung open.
“We extracted the bullet, but he won’t stop bleeding…” The situation was critical, and they were still waiting on a blood type match.
Because the man’s identity was unknown, they had to test his blood first.
If they waited for the results before giving him a transfusion, he would bleed out on the table.
Claire spoke up. “I might be able to help.”
“Help with what?” The ER doctor,
who had handled thousands of
traumas, took one look at Claire and
assumed she was just gettin way.
in the
He and Dr. Lane were out of options. What could a little girl possibly do?
“Because he’s so young!”
“Before we brought him in, I used specialized needle techniques to stop the bleeding. You pulled my needles before you started the surgery, didn’t you?
The doctor froze. “Those needles were for hemostasis?”
He was strictly trained in Western medicine, he knew absolutely
nothing about traditional treat
let alone using acupuncture to halt massive hemorrhaging.
Lawler backed Claire up. “She’s highly skilled. Don’t waste time-saving his life is all
that matters right now!”
“But…” The doctor hesitated. This wasn’t a standard injury.
The police officer turned to Claire. “Aren’t you just a freshman? Can you really stop the bleeding?”
“The man inside has a gunshot wound, which means this case is far from ordinary.” “Claire, if you aren’t absolutely sure you can do this, do not get involved.”
“If you are sure, then get in there! This man is a crucial asset. He cannot die-at least not today!”
The doctor couldn’t believe the police had authorized it so easily.
“Officer, this is completely against hospital protocol!”
He and Dr. Lane were the attending surgeons. If the patient died, they were the
ones who would face the consequences.
He was already exhausted from his ER shift and had no desire to be dragged into a massive malpractice scandal.
