Chapter 1736
[ 591 words ]
The bodyguard was specifically hired to ensure Ewan’s safety and push his wheelchair.
Who would have thought someone else would hijack his job?
Evie didn’t care that Yolande had brushed her off.
She strutted back into the ward and smugly told Quentin she had already called Mrs. Young.
“Your mom made it clear-you’re not to let anyone else mess with your legs. If they make a mistake, you’ll really be paralyzed for good.”
Quentin stared at her coldly. “Are you secretly hoping I never walk again?”
Evie choked on her words. “How could you say that? If I wanted you crippled, why would I rush all the way here to take care of you?”
“If it weren’t for you, my mom wouldn’t have sprained her ankle.” Quentin’s tone was entirely different from the polite demeanor he had shown around Yolande.
Evie looked stunned, a flicker of guilt flashing in her eyes. “I didn’t do it on purpose! I was just panicking because of your accident.”
“My mom was even more frantic than you, so why did you push her?”
Quentin had never liked Evie. He hadn’t liked her since they were kids.
He had always noticed her manipulative little tricks.
Whenever she liked something of his, she would constantly bring it up to his mother, sighing about how jealous she was, until his mother eventually bought her the same thing.
It was a talent, sure, but the fact that she used it on his mother disgusted him.
Evie was like a thief, constantly trying to steal everything that belonged to him.
That was exactly why he had refused to stay in their hometown and insisted on testing into Cabinda’s top university.
He just wanted to get away from her.
He knew that with Evie’s grades, she might be able to pull strings back home, but getting into Cabinda was impossible for her.
“I told you I didn’t mean to! Your mom didn’t even blame me, so why are you so mad?”
“Is it because you have a crush on that Claire girl, or her tramp of a sister? Is that why you’re treating me like this?”
Evie looked thoroughly aggrieved, but Quentin wasn’t buying any of it.
“My mom is already on her way to Cabinda. You can leave now.”
“As for os, all you’ve done is
so-called ‘care’ over the
past few

Take a mess of things.”
“I’ll wire you a few hundred dollars.”
That would more than cover her travel expenses.
Evie hadn’t expected Quentin to be so cold and calculated with her.
“How can you be like this? Now that you’re getting better and you have pretty girls
visiting you, you just want to kick me out?”
“I’m not leaving! Didn’t you say your mom is coming?”
“I’ll wait until she gets here!”
Quentin ignored her. If she wanted to stay, she could stay.
Yvette Young arrived shortly after.
Meanwhile, Claire, completely unaware of the drama, met up with Tandy and began
a consultation for Lucas Charles.
Lucas’s condition was complicated
The secondary injury to his
had turned a manageabl Soft
into a nearly irreparable one.
It wasn’t that foreign doctors lacked the skill for a second surgery, but the
Patriarch’s extreme methods had
enraged the predicalcommunity,
leading to a unified boycott.
With no one willing to operate, Lucas’s health had deteriorated, leaving him bedridden and paralyzed.
“Your body needs to recover first. You’ve gone on quite a few hunger strikes, haven’t you?”
Claire studied Lucas closely.
He had a decent face, but his cheekbones protruded sharply due to severe
malnutrition, making him look gaunt.
“Why are you staring at me like that?”
Her intense gaze gave Lucas the creeps.
He wasn’t afraid of the old men looking at him, but having this young woman stare
at him made him paranoid that he had gotten ugly.
