Chapter 1791
[ 731 words ]
“What are you looking at?”
Claire turned her head and saw a couple sitting together.
The woman was acting incredibly delicate, leaning intimately into the man’s chest while he playfully fed her bites of steak.
Claire raised an eyebrow. “Do you know the guy or the girl?”
She didn’t suspect for a single second that Dane was just checking out a pretty
woman.
Hearing her, Dane pulled his gaze back. “That woman is Lincoln’s girlfriend.”
After saying that, he immediately texted the restaurant’s address to Lincoln, telling him to come over.
Lincoln was still at the office working overtime. Being summoned by his boss meant he had to drop everything and rush over.
Lincoln was already capable enough to run things on his own. Dane had actually been considering sending him to manage an overseas branch, setting him up for a massive promotion and a pay raise.
However, he would need to spend a few years grinding abroad first.
As the trusted right-hand man to the CEO of Vertex International, taking that posting meant his career path was golden; things would only go up from there.
But Lincoln had hesitated.
He had told Dane that his girlfriend was about to graduate, and he wanted to settle down and give her a home.
Because of that, he didn’t want to leave the country for the next couple of years.
To Dane, sending him sooner or later didn’t make a huge difference.
But by passing up this rare, immediate opportunity, Lincoln was forcing Dane to give the position to someone else.
And it was impossible to say when Lincoln would get another chance like this.
Once he got married, he’d have to juggle his career with family responsibilities. There was no telling if his future wife would become even more demanding of his time.
Unless, of course, he chose a partner who unconditionally supported his ambitions. Given the current situation playing out across the room, Dane felt that while it might be a brutal blow to Lincoln, it could actually be a blessing in disguise.
Otherwise, was Lincoln supposed to get married, fly overseas, and immediately get cheated on?
Judging by how his girlfriend was acting right now, if they ever had a kid, Lincoln would probably need a DNA paternity test.
“Did you tell him?”
Seeing Dane tapping away on his phone, Claire completely understood his intentions.
Dane was someone who deeply valued talent, and Lincoln was his most reliable aide. If Dane hadn’t seen it, that would be one thing.
But since he knew, there was absolutely no way he was going to keep it a secret from Lincoln or make decisions on his behalf.
“I told him to come here,” Dane said without hiding anything.
Claire suddenly wondered how Dane would react if he randomly caught her out at a restaurant with another man.
He definitely gave off a vindictive, zero-tolerance vibe.
Then again, most men probably couldn’t tolerate being cheated on.
“Are we going to keep eating?” Claire stopped looking over her shoulder, not wanting to get caught staring.
However, she did suggest an idea to Dane. “Since you have your phone out, you should record them right now.”
“Get it on video to show Lincoln. What if they leave before he gets here? How are you going to convince him otherwise?”
Dane actually hesitated at Claire’s suggestion.
He had never done something like secretly recording people before.
But, for Lincoln’s sake, he supposed he could make an exception just this once.
Claire watched in sheer admiration as Dane casually recorded the couple while maintaining an utterly composed, emotionless expression.
If it were her, she would have felt a little guilty or nervous.
Most people secretly filming someone would look at least a bit suspicious, but Dane’s blank face made it look like he had everyfight in the world to be doing it.
“Keep eating.”
Noticing Claire had stopped eating while he recorded, Dane seamlessly placed some food on her plate.
Claire quickly took a bite.
Dane only recorded a short clip. Once he was done, he set his phone face down and casually resumed his meal.
It was hard to say whether Lincoln was having a lucky or unlucky day.
By the time he arrived, the couple at the other table still hadn’t finished their dinner.
It wasn’t that they had ordered a massive feast; they were simply spending so much time flirting and being entirely wrapped up in each other that the actual food had. become an afterthought
When Lincoln walked in, he didn’t even notice his girlfriend with
another man
His eyes were entirety.
focused on scanning the room for his boss.
